I have a 21 tundra 4 wheel drive. It just started developing a little bit of a grind. I jacked the front end up the right front spins freely. The left front has a slight grind to it. Put it in 4 wheel drive and everything smooths out. Any ideas, exactly what that is? Only 40,000 miles on it.

If it is a cyclic grind and only occurs in 2WD, it probably is the needle bearing in the front diff.

Yeah, after looking at a couple post. That's what it's looking like. I guess the big question is, I'm 700 miles from home. Does anybody think or has anybody had this thing? Explode on them cause I gotta be able to make it back.

It’s pretty unlikely, especially if it’s just started. Before I fixed mine, I couldn’t even find any evidence of catastrophic failure from others. Some have had to replace the CV too due to excessive wear.

But it’s more of an annoyance than anything. I drove mine for a couple thousand miles and the needle bearing came out fully intact and CV was fine.

Okay, thank you for the reply. I was just worried about it coming apart if I was out in the mountains coming home. Sounds like it'll be ok and when I get back It's going to the dealer because the truck still under warranty. Will buy the bushing so when it happens again, because it will probably be out of warranty by then I can fix it right. Thanks
