Hello I am new member and new Tundra Owner. I have owned every brand of truck over the years, but this is my first Tundra.

I purchased a 2021 Tundra with 5.7L with 65,000 miles from a local dealer in November of 2023. In the past 13 months I've driven the truck 1,000 miles. I rarely drive and 95% of trips are less than 10 miles.

I really like the truck and seems to be in excellent condition. I purchased it from a Lexus dealer who took it on trade. I like the dealer and generally trust them to be honest.

The truck engine has ticked since I purchased it. The service manager assured me that all Tundra engines tick. To an old man like me it sounds like lifters ticking. The engine and transmission are very smooth, you can barely feel the shifts happen.

Could someone please advise me this is in fact normal, or should I take it for service immediately?

    Best regards,

Yes , it’s normal. Heavier weight oil quiets it down.

Sometimes it sounds a little bit like a diesel (2008 5.7). I googled "Tundra diesel sound" the first week I was driving it and there are lots of people that say the same (the tick can give it a diesel sound).
