2021 Tacoma hard shift out of 4wd hi to 2wd. Transfer case whine

Hello all, I have a 2021 Tacoma with 4cyl and a 6 speed trans. 70,000 miles. The truck shifts into 4wd okay but "hangs up" or does not want to disengage to return to 2wd. It will eventually but with a bang. I've tried letting off the gas a bit, giving it a bit of gas, shift into neutral, nothing seems to affect the timing of the disengagement. Any idea on what maybe causing this?
Also, I hear a slight whine when in 4wd. The longer you stay in 4wd the stronger the sound gets to a point. Almost sounds like the transfer case is "binding up" as I drive. On regular roads. Straight and on curves.
