So an idiot pulled into oncoming traffic in front of our 2021 Lunar Rock TRD Pro. It’s totaled but it saved our lives… We bought it new and it was the best truck we have ever owned. I would not have sold it for any amount of money.
Original thought was just to try and find another one just like ours but considering a newer one. Test drove all other options (AT4X, ZR2, TRX, Raptor) and while they have nice tech, they just don’t feel as solid as our TRD Pro did.

    Right now deciding between:

2020 TRD Pro in Army Green
2021 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock
2022 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock

We also have an 2020 TRD Pro Sequoia in Army Green which we love. Another option would be to wait a year to see if the market settles down. Some of these 2020-21 TRDs are selling used for 10k over what they sold for brand new. Thoughts?

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you walked away.

I'm thinking the market is still going to drop. I've been watching HD trucks pretty closely since 2020 and they have dropped 20-27k in price.

These are the lowest mileage Pro's I could find that are reasonably priced.

You seem to value the rarer color and bed stamp.

But Tundras of a particular year are far more alike than different, and when I was shopping I decided the bed stamp/hood scoop/Pro branding wasn’t worth the extra $10k or so. It’s just a lot to pay for what is mostly an appearance package IMO.

The thing about Pro prices is people think you get better resale. It’s true that it will sell for more than a used SR5, but you’re paying that differential up front, too.

If my ‘21 was totaled and I decided to replace it with another Tundra, I’d look for a 2012 RW and do the Sequoia transfer case mod for full-time 4wd. Put lockers on it and have a triple locked Tundra :burnrubber:

Same thing happened to me last month. I ended up buying a 2020 TRD Pro with 42k mi for $47500. Really great condition, I am enjoying it very much.

That sucks! Sorry to hear. My 21 Tundra got totalled by an idiot, head on collision, saved our lives as well. I was a new Gen hater, but stayed open minded. I waited for a while, ended up with a new Gen 6.5 bed crewmax. Really nice to drive, nice tech, better crash test scores... Hopefully it's reliable. My guess it is, despite the bad press. New Gen SR5 or limited similar price as your TRD PRO, more features, probably rides as good if not better, even without the Fox suspension. Test drive a few!

Alright, time to bust some balls here (all in fun of course).... :D

I think this is the 2nd or maybe 3rd time I've seen you say that a Gen 2.5 Pro is just a 'bed stamp'....

Yet, did you not install the TRD Pro suspension on your own rig after watching a video of a Pro doing some 'cool shit' as you put it :boink:

    :nuclear:

Sorry for you loss; I'm partial to the Gen 2.5s, but if you're looking to move into the next Gen this would be a good excuse...

Between the 2021 and the 2020 :monocle:...

I'd go w/best value, although we've seen a few of the early '21s w/some QC quirks. I have an Oct '21 Pro and so far (knock, knock) haven't had any issues w/it.

Good luck on finding a replacement that works for you

PS>>> My bed stamp looks awesome :muscleflexing: @Terndrerrr

Haha. Yes I did. And I saved $7k and got the exact same performance. I guess I paid a few hundred bucks total for the color matching and $150 for the older TOYOTA grille, too. :notsure:

But I also avoided that hideous fake hood scoop that takes the truck from no scoops to two scoops :anonymous:

Found a few 20/21 Green/Lunar Rock with 20k ish miles that are intriguing. They are asking a crazy amount for them though... Also, wife wants a TRD Pro, so wife gets a TRD Pro. We test drove a few of the new ones and we both still preferred the older gen ride and definitely the older gen sound. Can't replace that V8...

Avoid the 2022. Make the wife happy and stick with a 2020 or 2021 Pro. Great trucks that'll last forever (barring big collisions).

Problem now is finding one without an accident, and preferably single owner... People just don't sell their TRD Pros. Hard to find one in decent condition. Everyone I have looked at so far had something wrong with it.

OP, I too know the feeling. I had my '20 with a hair over 18k miles totaled about 1.5 years ago when a dude not paying attention rear ended me. Overall it costs me thousands of dollars for a situation I had no fault in, by the time I replaced it with my new (had to buy used as the 2.5 gen was no longer in production) truck. Higher market price, higher interest rates, lost suspension mods, etc etc.
    It really sucks.

Definitely sucks. Had 2.29% interest rate, almost paid off... Now the best I can get is 6.09% and I will be paying more for a used than I paid for it brand new...

Side note, does anyone else hate multiple owners on a CarFax as much as I do? Once I go down to no accidents and single owner I am left with only a few decent ones across the US...

Yup, I had a 2.5%, now at 6.5% with excellent credit through my CU.
    Sh!t sucks!

Luckily I had put a good chunk down so I wasn't upside down when the wreck happened. Otherwise I would have been dealing with the gap insurance.

How bad was the damage? I mean, if it's not THAT bad and payout was good, buy back the truck and have it rebuild? throw in supercharger, long travel, widebody at once?

I know the feel thou OP, I have car ADHD, this has been the longest car ownership beside my first car which I still have, other trucks just don't vibe with me.

Bad enough to cause 30k+ worth of damage according to the adjustor. I think it was the angle of the accident. Front left suspension was messed up and that impacted the left side of the frame. This and our Sequoia TRD Pro have been the 2 vehicles we have kept the longest. Before the accident my wife and I had a conversation about how this was the first time in 20 years we were both happy with our vehicle situation.

May be its the fact I like pain in the ass things, but I'd buy it back and rebuild, a whole chassis is available from Toyota at $12k CDN or around $9k USD, put on some better suspension and slap on a supercharger.

once you slap on a supercharger on these 5.7, short of Raptor R or TRX (which is now discontinued), everything else feels "meh"

How are you being treated by the insurance company? I fear if something happens to my 21 regardless of who's at fault, the amount given to me isn't going to be anywhere close to replacement costs. Needless to say I drive defensively with a capital D.

That’s when the negotiations begin. If your truck is worth more, prove it. I was able to get more money for my 2000 on an insurance claim by proving that you can’t buy one for what they were offering me. I pulled all the available listings within 100 miles of me and sent them in. My insurance specifically states “cost to replace”.

It needed a new frame by state law because frames aren't straightened here. So cost of new frame + undiscovered repairs was too much and vehicle was totaled. It drives good still but resale value was trashed in the accident, a semi caused a chain reaction and I caught a lot of slow speed force thru a trailer into my hitch/frame. Still fairly square and aligned though, which is a testament to the '21 Toyota steel/build. The frame alone on my truck is a $19,500 part apparently, must be some good steel.

Not sure I want to trust anybody tweaking the frame to be honest.

Probably true, my 2021 custom long bed 4x4 sr5 upgrade was valued at under 40K and it only had 15K miles on it. That truck still probably gets 50K+ on the open market right now to the right buyer. Those last few years are holding high value right now.

Just curious…what is “a lot of slow speed force through a trailer…”?

5-10 miles per hour from a large semi truck
I was completely stopped with foot on brake

force went thru trailer and into my hitch and bent my bumper hitch bracket down and put small buckles on my frame on both sides on rear frame where hitch/bumper bracket attaches

Oh wow that musta been quite scary! Did you see it coming?

I originally thought you meant you had to stop quickly and that force is what caused the damage.

I saw it coming behind me, may have taken foot off brake
It knocked me about 20 feet forward, I was leaving distance between me and cars ahead of me.

anyways I now have a red title that says "totaled"
Ended up buying my truck back for just under 20K

messed up my neck for about a month and my brake pedal (right) heel was in pain for a couple weeks...obviously could have been much much worse
