Does anyone else experience high pitch engine whine or howl at approx 60 mph cruising along
This seem to be the sweet spot and will it dissipates when you take foot off gas or go past 60-65 mph . It’s pretty distracting and drowns out the radio

    Thanks

Only problem I have with my truck is for some reason the speedometer keeps creeping up and the fuel guage keeps creeping down. Might need to see if moving the seat back will help.

It’s the screen in the throttle body gasket causing a throttle-dependant whistle. A Sequoia gasket without the screen fits and cures the noise.

If it changes / comes/ goes with throttle / load rather than RPM, and it’s coming from up front it’s the screen. Or you can pick fly poop out of the pepper. :notsure:

Mine does it, although I can’t say I’ve noticed in the last two years. One day I’ll get to it. LOL

It is like a dog whistle. It almost made me trade my truck in when it was still fairly new. My wife couldn't hear it at all. A little internet searching led me to that little screen. I took a pair of dikes to it and never heard it again

I took my screen out about 6 months ago and replaced it with the sequoia gasket. Mine is a bearing or a pulley or maybe air injector pump. I'll have to get it looked at next service I'm sick of hearing it.

It’s definitely the screen. Switched mine out less than a month after I bought it. Do yourself a favor and just buy the oem one for the sequoia instead of cutting it out. It’s like $10 maybe. Coming up on a year of ownership now and honestly forget that I did this until someone brings up the whistle topic

Did anyone figure out the logic behind the screen being there in the first place? Is it just in case the air filter fails or something, to prevent filter media shreds from entering the engine? And why isn't it on the Sequoia?

I have no clue what original thinking was for the screen, but upstream screens are often used in air ducts to generate turbulence that maintains more uniform distribution of air flow across the duct downstream. It's doubtful, IMO, that the screen is there to prevent FOD (filter debris into throttle body).

I also can't explain why the screen would be desirable in the Tundra intake, and not in the Sequoia, unless Sequoia development engineers heard the whine and thought it unacceptable for a high-end family SUV. Maybe they decided to accept the penalty of not having whatever the screen is providing, in favor of reduced noise level in the cabin.

It might be that each manufacturing location has a different parts supplier. Sometimes one supplier cannot fill all the demand. Plus people do make mistakes, so each may have been provided a different drawing or set of manufacturing specs leading to each one making a slightly different design. QA may have decided well we already have tens of thousands made out of spec, let’s approach engineering. Then they could have said hmm maybe we can get a discount and still use them with no noticeable or negative impact. Resulting in some with, some without. Btw, IMO the only thing branded Toyota that I would consider high end is the Landcruiser.

Was just about to comment that our 21' sequioa doesn't have this whistle. This makes sense, good to know.

Woah. My truck totally does this. I've read a lot about this issue, but never realized mine does it until you mentioned it's like a dog whistle.

My ‘18 Taco had the A/C whistle and it drove me nuts. Didn’t notice the whistle on the tundra until I was on my way home from buying it a month ago. Instantly felt upset. Read about the fix on here and just remembered to order the new gasket  Excited to get it in. ;)

I have it on my 2021. Replacing the throttle body gasket did nothing to stop it unfortunately

I have a 2021 Tundra and after replacing the screen it still whines. Super annoying. Just like people are describing it comes and goes with throttle input

I snipped my screen a year ago - which eliminated 99% of my whistle. Just ordered the sequoia gasket. Not expecting a difference, but I’ll feel better about it being an OEM fix...
