2021 center console safe

Hey,

I recently purchased a 2021 limited from a ford dealership. The car has a center console safe. I forgot to ask about the key for this safe the day about it and now I’m chasing the dealer to try and see if they have it anywhere.

I f’d up and I’m preparing myself for them to say we don’t have it. If they do come back and say they can’t find or don’t have it, what’re my options?

On the side of the safe it says to call a Toyota dealership if you have any questions which is obvious but I wanted to check and see if be wasting my time by calling Toyota as a lot of times these dealers are more a waste of time than anything else. Let me know if anyone has had this problem and what I can do about it.

See if the dealer that you purchased from will call the previous owner.

 

Not sure what it looks like, but my '21 has a lock similar to the Lock'r down version. I know that they sell just the lock. You can drill it out. I did it on my previous Lock'r down combo I had on my '15. It was a "B", but with time and patience, I was able to get it out. Keep a vacuum close by for the shards. You may be able to use the previous locking lever to work with your safe. Not sure if you Tundy is a Gulf Coast build version to see if you can get a copy of the key for this VIN number from them??

Or you can get a lock smith to open it and rekey it for you? Hope this helps!

 

Your 21 is keyed? Safe in my 21 has a 4 digit code. Came with a little instruction leaflet that says factory code 0000. My dealer had what the previous owner had set but if yours is code you might try 0000, maybe you'll get lucky and find that previous owner didn't change it.

 

Isn’t the “dealer accessory” console safe just a Tuffy ?

For some reason I’m thinking that’s who makes them - at least for SE Toyota.

Tuffy replacement locks are easy to find - around $20. Key should be universal.

Personally - I’d ditch the key and remove lock if possible and just put a 3 or 4 digit combo in its place. More practical to open quickly and never worry about a lost key.

 

A locksmith can definitely resolve the issue for you as well.
