Hello folks. Merry Christmas to all.
I found a leak. Dont know if it should be a concern? I’d like to get it address before it gets worse.
2021 with 47,7xx on it. Location is on passenger side. Below the valve cover. I still have warranty on it but dont know if they will cover that or not. Here are some photos. Please let me know what you think. I cleaned the suspected area with brake cleaner first. Drove it and notice seeping. So i turn the tire out, clean it again. Then start the engine and it is definitely seeping from this area.
Look like it had been seeping for a while since you can see it covering the lower area.
    IMG_3950.jpg IMG_3948.jpg

See the gold color on the left edge? That’s oil. I just cleaned it. I wipe it and within seconds it seeps. Wipe it, it seeps. This is the culprit.
    IMG_3951.jpg

i don’t know what this location is called. But i want to have it fix.
    Any suggestions?

    thank you in advance

I still have the 60months/60,000miles powertrain warranty available on it. But would Toyota even cover something like this?

well technically i have a little over 12,300 miles left and 1 yr and some change whichever comes first.

I already scheduled an appointment online with 1 dealership 45mins from me, but can’t get in on my asked time until January 21st. I intend on taking full advantage of the warranty if it gets covered.

Anyone have any idea on how or what could cause this? Or what this area is called?

Dealer said it is the Timing cover. Will get cover under warranty. Go in on the Jan. 29th. Takes about 2 days, they said. Will get a loaner car to drive.

I was very pleased with the visit today.. they gave me no fuss. Straight forward. Showed up at my appt time and got right in. Done in an hour..
I had tried one other dealer in Louisville, Ky and would not recommend them. Drove over an hour for an set appt. Showed up and they were just herding people in. Told me they need more than 3hrs for a diagnosis. I even pointed out where the leak is and the "advisor" look like he doesn't even talk the same language.. i pointed exactly where it is and he still look confused. That was a red flag . Then he told me it would be atleast 3hrs before he can tells me what's going on . Huh? So i left . Even with an appt they still wants me to sit and wait half a day so they dick around.. nope .

These dealers love their customers! Glad they will eventually fix it though and acknowledged it at least over the phone. Keep us updated when you get it in for the repair!

The best tech on the planet could not fix a timing cover leak on a tundra in one hour. Haven’t looked, but guess that books out at 6 or 8 hours. Maybe the initial diagnosis was wrong and they determined it was a valve cover gasket. If it truly was a timing cover leak, the only thing they could do in an hour is clean it up and smear some rtv on the outside. I doubt they could even do a valve cover gasket in an hour, but that is at least plausible.

I think you missed my update post on #6.
I never said it was a valve cover leak. They determined it was a timing cover leak.
I went in to find out what is the cause of the leak. Not for a repair. I needed them to verify the leak and make sure it was covered under the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty.
Did not ask them to repair anything. A good tech, as you mentioned, will do the diagnosis quickly and verify the cause. Which they did in a timely manner. As i expected. The advisor told me they will pressurize the system and find the source of the leak. Then confirm it. They recently done a 4runner with same issue. Was told it was not uncommon and not rare issue that they've seen. So this tells me they know what they are doing.
Expect 1.5-2 days worth of work.

I bought a certified used low mile 21 DC cab from them this spring and they were pretty shady. I bought it from out of state, as I live in the salt belt and most of the used stuff up here was horribly rusty. They jerked me around at almost every step of the process. Truck has been great but the sales guy, managers, accounting staff were really bad. Sounds like it extends to the service dept.

Great to hear that you got your issue resolved.

Wow that is a shame you have an oil leak already in that place. My 2021 TRD Pro double cab just hit 64,000 and thankfully no issues so far.

Yeah. I know. Was just ss surprised myself when i notice it. Traded in a 2017 sequoia with similar mileage for it and it had zero issue or leak. Spotless.
Nonetheless, it's getting fix under warranty. Hopefully no issue will arise from the fix afterwards.

Bought my 21 Limited from them in Nov of 22 (CPO lease return). You hit the nail on the head with sales, managers etc. I ended up having to have a call with their GM after the sale, as I was from out of state, but one of 6 that still had to pay the KY sales taxes at 6% (my state caps this at $300 IIRC). Idiots let me leave with the truck, and then a week later claimed I owed them thousands. Even went so far as to suggest I could return the truck to them... made them eat the cost. They weren't legally supposed to let me leave without collecting.

Glad it didn't work out for me. Who know what kind of issue i would have gotten post repair. If the sales department is that bad. Can't imagine what the service department end up being.

Just picked up the truck this morning from the dealership. So far so good. No sign of oil leak. They definitely seal the cam tower also. You can tell from the sealant ooze. Will update if anything else comes up. Hopefully not but if it does, hopefully soon before the powertrain warranty expire.. 1 yr/10k left on the warranty, whichever comes first.
