Anyone with a 2020 that has CarPlay having issues with using the hands free feature for phone calls? The phone reception between the phone and the CarPlay system is so bad that the person on the other end can’t understand me, and they cut out as well. This has nothing to do with the cell service reception on the phone, and I have used my phone with multiple other vehicles with Apple CarPlay with no issues at all. I’ve tried different USB cables between the USB port on the Tundra and my iPhone, including an OEM Apple cable. I’ve also tried resetting phone multiple times. I do not have the phone connected via Bluetooth as well, however I have tried that also and it makes no difference.

My phone is an iPhone 11 Pro, for reference.

I think the iphone 11 is having serious problems with carplay. A quick google search brings up a lot of people with the problem.

I assumed the same thing, however I do not have issues with other CarPlay vehicles. I had a 2019 Escalade rental car for a week in Oregon and no issues. My wife has a 2018 Audi and also no issues.

    It’s so slow
My wife has a 2020 4Runner and it’s way faster and better.
I don’t know what’s up but so far I’m not impressed!

I've noticed that the audio is sometimes too quiet, like the other person is speaking from the other end of a large room. But nothing else.

My wife also has a 20 4R ORP and she runs a iPhone 11 Pro Max the first time I called her she was like "this thing is shit". I have no issues with my 20 Tundra and Galaxy s10+ using Android Auto. See my above post about the TSB, I'll have it done on our first services as the dealer is about 2 hours away. Plus the newest software update for the 11 is supposed to address CarPlay issues.

I'm having the same issue, with an 11 Pro Max. It's like there is a 2 second delay, if they can hear me at all.

I have a 2020 CM and iPhone XR. No issues (so far).

By chance did you enable your truck's wifi connect? If so are you connected to it with wifi calling enabled?

Thanks guys. I will take it to the dealer and have them do the update. It’s too bad we can’t get updates over the air without going to the dealer.

In response to @WellWater, I do not have the WiFi calling enabled.

I believe on most Toyota platforms the issue is with the iPhone 11.

There's also a TSB to update the head unit so do both.

UPDATE: I took the truck in to the dealer this morning to have the software updated. They told me that the truck already had the latest software version, but somehow discovered that the microphone in the truck wasn't properly connecting when making phone calls. They said that they fixed it by doing a "master reset", whatever that involves. I tested it on the way home and the person on the other end of the phone call said they weren't having any problems hearing me. Hopefully the issue is fixed.

Do any of you use Spotify for your music? When I go to a playlist, sometimes it'll show all the songs on the list. But most of the time it'll only show like the top 15 songs on the list and I can't even scroll down the list. I can play the songs not showing by pressing next song so the songs are on there, just not showing up on the list on the screen. Any thoughts?

The dealer confirmed that ever since IOS 13, there have been major issues with the iPhone and CarPlay. That doesn't surprise me. Apple just can't seem to get it right, like they used to when Steve Jobs was around... :)

My Android Auto works fine on my 20 with a Galaxy s10+ :spy:. But my wife's 20 4runner isn't working so great with her 11 Pro Max and CarPlay :boink:.

Bumping this thread. Anyone still having issues with CarPlay? Google maps won’t change the volume even when I try to adjust it when it’s speaking. It’ll automatically change the music volume, but never google maps (when speaking or not). Any advice?

The only issues I’ve had are a pixelated screen when using Waze as my map.

I have this same problem with my 2020 4Runner Venture Apple Carplay media center. If I am on a call for more than 2-4 minutes while using Waze, the screen goes pixelated exactly like chrisbusnut. Not sure if it is an iPhone compatibility problem or the system itself. I have an iPhone XR and am directly connecting into the system through USB using an Apple USB cable. The system works great at all other times, but definitely worries me with the truck having under 1500 miles on it. Plan to report it to the dealership at next service.
