hello all, I have a 2020 TRD Sport 4x4 that i purchased new 6 months ago, it currently has 4k miles on it. I am having hesitation issues with the truck and i wonder if it is a characteristic of the truck or is it me. Also, i wonder if the pedal commander will resolve the hesitation problem. Let me explain what is happening.

From a stop the truck accelerates just fine, no hesitation. However if I am traveling at about 30MPH, and proceed to slow down, but not come to a stop, and then accelerate from about 15-10MPH the truck does not accelerate. It hesitates for about 3 seconds (like a delay in acceleration) and then the truck accelerates as normal.

I have read numerous threads on the pedal commander. My problem with the pedal commander is my right foot will always go to the floor and get me in trouble and on the way to getting in trouble i would need to stop at a fuel station to fill up. But, if the pedal commander would solve my issue of hesitation, then i could dial the pedal commander down to a reasonable setting.

Is the pedal commander a solution, is the hesitation normal on these trucks, or am i loosing my mind.

    Thanks all.

Your not alone my 19 sport does it. Normally everyday going down a slight hill when I slow down for a second then give it gas to get on my freeway on ramp going to work. I never noticed it until my wife pointed it out now its annoying. But it hasn't gotten worse in 2 years so I've learned to ignore it lol.
I've got no solution but your not loosing your mind. Good luck

Well that's a relief, that i'm not loosing my mind. I could probably deal with it, i don't drive the truck all that often, 3 or 4 times a month,. But it is very annoying. I worry about it when i am towing my Camper, trying to get on a highway of move out of the way of traffic.

I've never noticed it on my 2020 Sport. I've had it over a year with a little over 18k miles on it now. I've had it want to shift weird when in the same scenario you explained, but never felt it like that for 3 seconds. Usually just seemed like the trans was trying to get to the right gear quickly.

Before spending the money on the pedal commander, try going in Tow/Haul mode and attempt to replicate your issues. If it still does it, I highly doubt the PC will fix it.

That's not a bad idea. I will try that next time i drive the truck. I want to be sure i don't need to take it to the dealer for this issue. Thanks for the idea.

With tow haul mode on my 2020 sport comes alive. So much so the pedal inputs result in jerky acceleration if trying to drive normal. Try tow haul mode and see what I’m saying. If not I don’t know

If it still does it even with T/H mode, then you might want to look at taking it to the dealer and have a tech or service manager ride with you and replicate the issue while they're with you. Not sure if they're doing this right now due to covid though.

Sounds like you're engine is braking as it should, and then has to shift up suddenly.

Could be lagging, could be an overestimation of 3 seconds.

Have a 2018 sport with 15,000 miles, have not noticed any hesitation with mine.

Probably transmission strategy to prevent high torsional loads or shock loads on system

I have 2018 with 31000km and it doesn't do that. Maybe fuel mapping is little bit different with newer trucks?

PC would solve this. I got one. You got like several dozen ways to tune it in, I use "tune" with hesitation, it's not a tuner.
Get one, you'd love it. I got mine set to City+2, wife drove it once and it scared the hell out of her and she want drive it again. I see this as a positive.

Don't think so. I havent noticed such behavior. I am actually very impressed by throttle response and shifting. Im at 1000 miles now.

This is a common issue with fly by wire throttle. It’s inherent in the design. If everything else checks out, I wouldn’t worry. You can google fly by wire hesitation and see the results.
