Ok guys I posted yesterday about installing a Pop n Lock on my 2020 Platinum, wasn’t exactly sure what wiring to splice into...just got it done, and the wiring that comes with the lock is WRONG...here’s some picks of my install, I may make a video as well if it would help people out, but the wiring is the exact opposite of what the instructions tell you to do...you have to connect the green wiring from pop n lock to the red wire of truck, and the blue wiring from the pop n lock to the white wire of truck...the pics show what I mean, and what connector is the correct one to splice into...honestly a super easy job, other than the wiring being wrong...this goes for anyone with a 2018, 2019, and 2020...Toyota changed the color of the wiring at that point

And as for the loud “thunk” people sometimes complain about when activating the pop n lock, I installed one of these washers on the mounting bolt of the actuator, the noise is now no louder than the doors locking, helped tremendously!

hope it helps and feel free to ask any questions!

    Pics below...

That’s a bad idea, you just removed half the threads form then tailgate handle... better take off the washer before your handle rips off from not having enough of that thread in the handle. Or you could get a longer bolt to compensate the thick washer

thought of that, threaded in plenty, that washer really flattens out...no way is that bolt in any jeopardy of coming lose, but if it ever does I’ll just pop in a little longer bolt...if I still had the tailgate cover off I’d show ya an up close pic, the bolt screwed in almost all the way due to washer flattening

It’s the PL8535...says it only goes up to the 2019’s but not the case, they just haven’t updated website yet...I verified before ordering, hope that helps!

Nice when I installed this on my old tacoma I used dynomat or what ever it's called for stereo system to keep that noise down. It helped also made the tailgate sound like a door getting closed since it adds something to it besides the thin metal.

Yeah thanks for the writeup was nice to know exactly what wires to splice into without guessing.

Just installed mine last night love it!

Didn't have the washer but I'm going to go back and install that because yeah its a pretty loud CLANK everytime I lock the truck right now.

No prob!...glad it helped, that washer def helps some... Don’t get me wrong, you still hear it, but it’s not as loud… I like the fact that I can still hear it somewhat just to confirm the tailgate locked

I installed one on my 2020 a couple weeks ago and all the wiring was correct. I put sound deadner on the inside of the tailgate to lessen the noise and I am pleased with how that worked out.

Nice!...I may add some deadner but I kinda like the subtle thump just to let me know it’s locked

Completed an install on my 2019 this past weekend. What I learned
    • Wiring instructions, as stated by OP, incorrect. I should have tested before closing everything up.
    • Posi-tap connectors are worth the extra cost - very secure
    • Rubber washer helps with noise and you still have a tight fit
    • I followed another members instructions. Ran the wire through a rubber plug under the passenger side floorboard and under the styrofoam in the cab to the kick panel.
    • Reinstalling the kick panel was a bugger. I found out later you need to reinstall with the white clips in the kick panel part holes - these don't come off with the panel and you cannot get it back on cleanly without doing this way.
Overall, pleased with this upgrade and may install some sound deadening material later.

Thanks for the tip on the rubber washers. I didnt even bother installing without them. Just did it right once. Its really isnt that loud. If ur standing right infront of the tailgate it isnt that bad. I like being able to hear it a little.

I have a ‘16 and my wiring instructions were WRONG as well. They had the wires mixed up. It was locking instead of unlocking, luckily i checked before i snapped my wire-taps tight.

    Super easy install.
