I installed some raptor lights on my 2020 Tundra TSS. For the time being I wired it to the ignition so they're on when the key is on. However, I would like to be able to turn them off if need be. I wanted to tap into the DRL lights so they can be on whenever the DRL lights are on. But for the life of me I can't figure out which cable gives them power. I have these lights on:

Not sure if the 2020 is different but my DRLs are on with the key on.

The 2020 is quite different than the previous years. The 2020 has a DRL off function on the stalk. They also changed alot of the wiring and colors. The wiring color is even different between the trim levels.

iirc my 2016 DRL has 2 filaments and 2 wires to control each (not including the ground wire). One is brighter and used for DRL and/or turn signal and the other one is for parking light and not as bright.

My DRLs turn off when I turn on the headlights and it's also used for turn signal (headlight on or off) so you don't want to be using that wire.
If you want to tap into DRL wiring and something that's on all the time, you need to tap into the parking light wire of the DRL assembly (the low intensity filament side). assuming you won't overload the circuit ...

I think the low intensity filament stays on all the time as long as you have the parking lights on. If you can get to the back of the DRL, you should see these wires. Some models had issues with the turn signal intensity (turn signal was not very bright) and had to swap the pins. That's another story and later on there was a recall for that but what I'm saying is that evidently these pins or wires must be easy to access. Also again this is for 2016 models.

So I took my headlight assembly out to take a better look. There are 3 wires: purple, red, and ground.. From the probing I did, it looks like the purple turns on the DRLs when the parking/headlights are switched on. The red wire turns on the DRLs when driving. However, they are mutually exclusive. I don't know how to make it to where the lights run when either cable has power, so I think I'm just gonna wire it to a switch instead.

Tap into DRL wire for when driving. You will get the most bang for the buck. Or you can do your separate switch or some OR logic ... but then it's more work for just when you are parked and not moving.

Or if you really want them (same DRL wire) ON when parked, I think as soon as you release the emergency brake, the DRL comes on. At least that's what my '16 does.

You have to try the following after you start the engine:

1- Go to N from P (Don't recall if this step is necessary). Keep foot on the brake.

2- Release the emergency brake. DRL comes on.

    3- Apply the emergency brake.
    DRL stays ON.

4- Go back to Park (if step 1 was required).

That way your Ford lights turn on when parked. It may be as simple as step 2 & 3.

I don't think they are the same for 2016 and 2020. The 2020 has a white LED bar at the bottom of the lights. They are separate from the amber turning lights.

I don't think the DRL ON logic has changed. If you release the emergency brake after you start the engine, the DRL should turn on.
