CarGurus shows it started out at $51k; then they decided to raise it. I mean, who doesn’t want to pay over MSRP for a 100k-mile USED truck?

This has been so common for years. I can't even tell you how many one year old Denalis I've seen with 60k miles listed for the equivalent of ~$65-70k USD.

Ask and take are 2 different things.

    A few thoughts though:

    - It’s a Toyota…everyone knows they run forever - miles don’t matter

    - It’s not as if they have 9 more in the back, they don’t need to find a lot of buyers, just one with a 620 credit score and a healthy income

    - Buy it today for 62k and drive it - if the pricing trend on Pros continues - you should be able to sell it for 75k in 2025

    - That 10k dealer markup on a 2021 ain’t looking so bad now is it ?

Seriously - I get this stupidity in the Pacific NW where prices on everything are outrageous. This is in freaking Alabama. Guess they got tired of people bothering them with inquiries and said - hey, let’s just overprice it by 18k and stop all the low ballers.

    Here's a 2004 F-350 we looked at yesterday, 115,000 miles, 4X4 with manual hubs, 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel, Automatic Trans, 28,500 Firm.Resized_20211109_131128.jpg

But it’s a 7.3 Powerstroke - your overpaying for the in demand power plant there.

I at least understand paying 25k for an older vehicle with uncommonly low miles in good shape.

A comparable late model would command 3 times the price - be no more reliable and depreciate by 20k in 5 years - buy this and in 5 years you still are likely to have a running truck worth something.

Of course this is the exception - a recent truck that actually increased in value significantly from new cost. Similar to heavy equipment and the desire to find pre emissions stuff.

There are a lot of people who talk about how the V8 Tundra will be similarly valued - in short - I doubt it. There are just too many of them out out there for “scarcity” to be a factor like it is in these Fords (they make a million F150s a year - but probably made 40k of these every year for the 11 year run) and kinda like a Hemi in the 70s - it was prized from the moment they stopped making them. Tundras may hold value - but they won’t increase like this did.

Hell - the rate I’m going with my Tundra, I may be back in the market shortly.

At the price - it’s a decent deal based on current inventory/pricing.

I’d pay $28k for a nice 20 year old 1 ton Ford before I’d pay 85k for a 3 year one right now (or 65k for a 100k mile 2 year old Tundra)
