I have a 2019 tundra 4 door limited 5.8 tow package ect.. @ 28, 500 it needed a brake job, so I had the dealer do it, (pads only, roters turned) now at 40,358 front end shaking when brakes applied, 1st has anyone experienced this on there Toyota and is there some aftermarket rotors/pads that I can get that will last longer than 25,000 miles..

That seems very unusual, I had my original rotors (kept turning and replacing pads) for 186k miles. 28,500 is early for a brake job, I would expect pads to last 40-60k miles given normal driving habits. So no, I haven’t experienced it myself. If it were me, I would suspect your rotors are warped or something wasn’t torqued down properly when they did your brakes. I would stick with OEM and take it back to Toyota for them to take a closer look.

thanks, it goes in for 40,000 mile service tomorrow, I am going to have them check it out, I had a 2000 GMC that went 186,000 before I changed the pads and I still had pad left, but they were semi metallic pads not the organic type.

Well, I am pretty sure the mechanic that is working on my tundra talks out his ASS quite a bit. so I talked to the service guy and he said the mechanic said it needed a brake job (steering wheel shaking when brakes applied) @40,775 miles, previously @30,000 they said it needed a brake job, same thing steering wheel shaking) so I had one done by the dealer pads, rotors turned, ect..so 10,775 miles later it needs another one I call bullshit on the mechanic, plus I got $5600.00 in autocare, so in case something happens to me my wife can just take it down to the dealer and they would fix it, come to find out half the crap that they said was covered on the bumper to bumper is not covered. I was close to going next door to the chevy dealer and trading it in. my kid said i should have bought a dodge ram. well after a few shots of Jack Daniels, I have decided to go after market front rotors/brakes, Bag the rear end and put duel exhaust with a flow master muffler on it, possibly take the 20 inch wheel/tires off and get some nicer wheel/tire package...

Tundra brakes are junk. Mine started shaking at 20k miles. They were machined and now again at 40k I'm having issues again. Hard pass on oem.

Sorry to hear about all of your brake issues. My 2019 double cab has 32,000 miles on it and has plenty of brake pad material left with no warped rotors. I tow a 6,000 pound camper about 6 times a year anywhere from 1-3 hours a trip each way and havent had any issues with the brakes. Hopefully your issue is isolated to possibly mismanufactured rotors and can be easily remedied with new oem/after market ones.

Well, my son and I did the brakes on the tundra with a power stop extreme kit new rotors/pads(ceramic)/hardware, very easy and the brakes work good but when we had the wheels off we noticed leakage out of the front drivers side hub @ 41325 miles anybody have problems/comments, also I bought a performance curve duel exhaust and the 2 pipes from the flange to the muffler fit perfect the muffler fit very good, then everything from the muffler back did not fit, 1 tube hit the spare tire, and where the tube was supposed to go (between the rear spring shackle and the spare tire was only 2 inches and the pipe was 2.5 inches) I looked on the sheet where all the pipes were supposed to fit and it said 2003-2015 so i called them and they said it also fit the 2019 tundra's but I noticed that Toyota splayed the front of the springs so they are on an angle (front spring perch is wider than the rear) we used to do that in the racecars anybody have the same thing on theres...

I recently got a used 2010 5.7 SR5 4wd. I drive 50K a year it currently has 140K and I am starting to have a front end shake. Seems somewhat random. Happened once at 45mph, then later at 65mph. when it happens it gets so bad that the dash vibrates and I have to stop. Stoping also shakes bad. Then I couldn't get it to do it again until I was trying to force it to " hard acceleration and braking" it then happened at 85mph, but wasn't as bad or constant. Tire Pressure is good on all 4, I don't see any sign of weights falling off, Lugs are tight and nothing on the suspension seems out of wack. After I post this I'm gonna pull the tires off and root around a bit more. also smell a good bit of brakes, but that could have just been from me beating the crap out of it on the way home. Will check back in if I find anything.

I've had similar issues with 2017 Tundra. I've replaced brakes and rotors twine in last 8 months. The shaking is horrible when I apply the brakes at 55mph and above but don't have the issues under 55 mph. I've yet to have someone figure out the problem.

38,000 miles on mine and just starting to get a little shake when braking now.

My truck tows everyday. Virtually every mile on my truck has had a trailer tagging along. I’m thinking of going hawk with front drilled rotors. Or maybe power stop. Looking for opinions

My OEM turned rotors lasted about 20,000 miles. Since then I have EBC slotted rotors on the front, and on my second set of EBC pads. No shimmy or shake. DBA slotted on rears only because the EBC's weren't available...Make sure you clean the hub before install..I use Scotch- Brite Roloc hub cleaning kit..

I'm putting EBC dimpled/slotted on this week on all 4 corners. They, and a few other manufacturers (but not all) do higher temperature treatments such as cryo and that's what you need to avoid warping up front.

If the warp under 60k I'll be surprised, then disappointed, and then I'll spend the money on Frozen Rotors.

Mine went at 28K. I put Powerstops on. Haven't looked back since. Just turned 77K on the truck this morning. OEM rotors are junk.

I have reason to believe the underlying issues with warping comes from severe over tightening of the lug nuts.

I suspect most "name brand" brake parts will last, if installed correctly, "broke in" properly, and the lug nuts are torqued to spec.

I also suspect the same brake parts will have to be replaced very early if not installed correctly, not "broke in", and/or the lug nuts are air wrenched on with no care.

Only shop that touches my truck uses a manual torque wrench in front of my eyes, so it ain't that in my case, but it's an interesting theory. I'd be surprised if the hub or wheel itself wouldn't show wear first though, especially these aluminum TRD off-road wheels.

Tundra's rotors are known to warp sooner than other vehicles. How does that add up to over tightening or break in periods?

Only tundra technicians and oil change guys overtighten?

Neither toyota "dealers" nor quick shops are known for their fantastic service?

All I'm saying correlation does not equate to causation. Many people think their dealer is the best thing since sliced bread for their service. Makes a huge amount of money for the dealer!

For some things, like recalls and TSBs, yes. For oil changes, brakes, and tire rotation, no!!

Never turn rotors, either pad slap or change the pad and rotors. Don’t know why but every time I turn rotors, it’ll warp.

    None....
It's because they were already warped or starting to. Then when you turn then the metal is thinner, weaker, and older so they will warp sooner.

I got 50k on my stock brakes, and every now and then when coming off the highway the wheel will shake. It's only a matter of time and I will put new Toyota front rotors and pads on it.

All new pads and rotors need to be properly broken in/bedded in when new.
Google and you will find some easy to follow instructions. Basically, you are trying to get an even layer of pad material burned onto the rotor. Once it's there, you should be good. Otherwise, you end up with an uneven transfer of material that will eventually lead to brake "chatter". The rotor is still flat, but the build up of material is uneven.

The rotors on the Tundra's aren't meant to be turned. I think Toyota wants you to get new rotors at every brake job and not reuse the old ones.

I know this is definitely the case with the TRD Pro brake pads. There is a very specific break in procedure that you are supposed to follow. It's not so much of an issue with the regular pads though.

I'm at 40,000 miles on my 2019 and I need to do my brakes here soon but I haven't experienced any problems with my rotors warping or anything like that. I'm debating if I should replace the rotors or not. The brakes still work fine but I don't want to have to replace them in 20,000 miles if I don't. So I probably will.

I've got a 4" lift and 34" tires so I expect the brakes to wear faster. Mine aren't down to metal yet. I can probably get a few more miles out off them but I always like to change the pads while they still have some meat on them.

My front brakes started to shimmy because the brake pads seized in the caliper I took a big file cleaned the caliper and shorted the pads. No more shimmy.

Older thread, but thanks for bringing it up. No issues yet with my 2019, but reading this is a bit disheartening. I wonder if any members of the previous posts ever resolved their issue.

I must be the oddball… 2020 Platinum with about 47k, plenty of pad left and no steering wheel shake…
