My Tundra is at the dealer having a trailer light issue fixed. The Left Turn signal only at the 7 pin plug truck side stays constant 12 volts when left turn selected. The truck tail light works great. The right turn signal works correctly at the 7 pin plug it flashes. They are saying the instrument cluster is the issue and needs to be replaced. They are saying that a shorted wire on the trailer is the common issue. I would think that the circuit should have been protected by a fuse if not this would seem to be a bad design. Has any one ever heard of this issue?

Just got back from the dealer. I had to replace the instrument cluster. Apparently, if your trailer has a short it can fry the circuit in the instrument cluster, now I’m afraid to connect to a trailer. I would think the circuits should all be fused in order to protect the truck.

Why not add a fuse then?

I plan on putting in-line fuses on the trailer circuits. I was under the impression that they were fused since everything was factory.

I’m pretty sure they are as well. I hook up to some pretty sketch trailers often. Can’t believe that you can fry your cluster with a trailer short.
