Jan 12, 2018, I purchased new Tundra Limited from Freedom Toyota in Hamburg, PA. At 59 miles, the truck began to show errors in the Safety Sense System--PCS off, Trailer Brake Failure, PCS Failure all with accompanying flashing lights and audible alerts. I have had the truck back to the dealer three times to have the computer "re-trained" as they described the experience. On the last dealer visit, the dealer kept the truck for 6 days and a sensor was putatively replaced (due to a recent recall). I had the truck back for 24 hours when the problem (PCS off) started once again. The truck in in the dealer shop for the 4th time with no estimated fix date.

The dealership management has not bothered to contact me and are very difficult to reach on the phone--they seem to have a lot of meetings. I have researched the PA Lemon Laws and have spoken to a lawyer. I have owned this truck for about 7 weeks and have not had much opportunity to drive it. I will say that this is the worst ownership experience that I have ever had. I am probably going to demand a full refund so I can purchase a new Ford truck.

I believe it was mentioned on here that snow, ice, bugs, road grime, etc. can block the sensor. My coworker has a newer Chevrolet and when it's icy his will throw alarms, he said once the truck was wet and when he backed up water ran off the roof and hood down the grill and threw the sensors off.

Sorry bud, that sucks. But you hate going to the dealer for repairs and you want to buy a Ferd? If you stick it out and get this fixed, you’re likely to be trouble free from here on out.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Searching this, or any other Tundra forum, you’ll note very quickly that there are very few problems with Tundras...much less than any other mfg. With that being said, some people do have the unfortunate luck of getting a lemon. I would not write off the Tundra completely, it could very well be that yours happens to be a lemon. Many other 2018 owners on here with zero issues with the sensors and such, even after lifting them. Prior year models, before all the added safety crap, have even less problems.

That just shouldn't be acceptable IMO. The sensor should have been thought out better, if that's all it takes to throw it off. Mine hasn't messed up yet (knock on wood), but we have gone through a spell of 126 straight days with no measurable amount of moisture. That streak just ended thanks to a .01 measurement, LOL. I sure hope I didn't jinx myself.......

That's too bad, but I'm sure they'll take care of it. In regards to stuff getting on the sensor, we had an ice storm back in December that covered the whole front of my truck. The parking sensors went off as soon as I got down slow enough, but the TSS-P equipment still worked as designed and didn't give me any errors. I'd be pissed as well if my brand new truck was in the shop immediately, but I can also say the grass definitely isn't greener on the other side.

Thanks to all for your comments. I've had three F150s since 1993 with no issues beyond oil changes and tire replacements (normal consumables). Regarding the weather related issues, it has been cold and dry here with the occasional puddle. To think that I cannot occasionally take a truck out in the rain blows my mind. I'm giving Toyota this 4th opportunity to find and fix the problem. If the issue remains, I have a decision--replace or refund under PA law.

    Thanks

This is not the norm. Did you just sign up to tell everyone how shitty Toyota is?

I can understand your frustration. Having a brand new truck in the shop sucks. But, don’t kid yourself into thinking rolling into a Ford will be a trouble free dream come true.

And, good luck with that Lemon Law thing...

Don’t feel bad bro. I bought one (2018 Limited Crew Max) Wednesday and it’s in the shop for the same thing. I am only going to go through this once before I demand a new truck. So this better get fixed the first time, because I’m not going to deal with this crap again

So, if the 3 F150s were trouble free why did you make the change? I’m just curious.

This new safety sense does seem to be causing some issues. I have a 17 and don’t have any issues.

Good luck. I’m not sure the Lemow Law works quite as seamless as you make it out to be but perhaps you’ll be lucky.

Sorry to hear about your issues, that's gotta really suck balls. I'd be frustrated as Eddie Murphy in 24 hrs. The TSS that was introduced on 2018 model has been a big problem for the Tundra, but not all have the issue. Maybe the dealer could just swap the truck for you?

Your part of PA must be much different than mine. It has been raining almost non-stop for what feels like weeks. My yard feels like a sponge. That coupled with all the ice melting has River levels high all over the state.

It's very unfortunate about your problem. I hope they can resolve it or I wish you the best of luck with Ford.

So we have two brand new members with firsts posts saying they have issues with 2018 tundra and one saying they are going ford. Sorry, I am a little suspect. For sure if your issues are sincere, that sucks but I know Toyota and the dealership will make it right. This isn’t a common thing I’ve read about. See if they’ll throw in an aftermarket dealer cost mod they can throw in to make it right.

Call Toyota. It may be the dealer doesn't know what they are doing. Corp will light a fire under their butts if you start mentioning you've had it there 4 times and lemon law.

LoL this was my thinking also.
Always a little unsure of first time posters directly posting issues with only talk of switching their vehicle.

I'm sure it happens, but always feels a little off.

    Corporate espionage!

Welcome! Sorry to hear of your troubles. Hopefully you'll get them resolved and you'll be trouble free. Statistically, Toyotas are the most trouble free trucks on the market.

I came from a Ford. I'll never allow another Ford on my property again, never mind actually own one. The rare friend who owns one has to park in the street (yes, they understand why). In 1.5 years of ownership and 30,000kms I had over $6000 in warranty repairs plus another $1200 out of my pocket just keep it running. I never knew if the truck would start or even get me to work. I was treated like crap, lied to, cheated and stolen from by 3 separate Ford dealerships AND Ford corporate. I'm of the opinion that no one of integrity or honesty works for Ford, period. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and had no legal recourse such as Lemon Law otherwise I would have taken Ford and all 3 dealerships to court.

Good luck if you go back to Ford...you'll need it. As far as I'm concerned, Ford and all their employees can rot in the vilest depths of bloody puss spewing hell. I would rather amputate my hands and feet then crawl across Canada on the bloody stumps than drive a Ford 50 feet.

Maybe if you cut off my dick. Then I'll drive the Ford off the nearest cliff while still in it because living without a dick is about the same as living with a Ford...pointless and full of disappointment.

I'm not angry about my Ford experience at all... :der:
