2018 Tundra DC 4.8L work truck .. Need help ..no key fob ??

Hello everyone ! I found this forum because I am looking for a solution to my problem with my newly purchased Toyota Tundra Double Cab 4.6L ( work truck ? )
The issue is that when they sold me my truck at the Toyota Dealer they said it only came with 1 spare key.. or so I thought..and that they would look for the Fob key and get back to me.. Then I get a phone call from the sales manager and he says “ that truck vin says it’s a work truck package and that there is no Fob key available nor can one be installed for this vehicle… so I found this forum and read that a national locksmith said that “ if there is only one key hole in the driver’s door, a fob key is required. Can someone give me some direction on here… i am not raving or venting guys , just looking for a way to get a fob key installed for remote unlock.. thanks for reading this.

 

Work trucks typically don't have a key fob. An after market alarm would be your best bet for a key fob.

 

Compustar is your answer. My 2020 work truck only came with 2 keys (no fob). No way I am sticking my key in the hole to unlock my doors each time when getting in. Compustar solved everything. Now I have remote start, 2 way alarm (my key fob tells me if someone hits the truck, opens the doors, even tells me if someone jacking up or towing my truck because it has tilt and shock sensor. Compustar 2 way remote claims 3 miles range. The remote I am using is Compustar T12.

 

Hello there and thanks for your reply about Compustar T12. I will look in to this !! It sounds like exactly what I want as my last truck was stolen from right in front of my house ! Dod you install this yourself or have a dealer or mechanic do it ? Can you give me some more information like a website ?? I will search for it myself of course but any more information would help and … thanks a million again buddy !

There’s a Work Truck Package that is an option that does this: “SR WORK TRUCK PACKAGE — Adds durable vinyl seating and flooring, and removes wireless door lock feature. On Regular Cab models, power windows and the speed- and shift-sensing power door lock features are also removed.” Not all SR models have this package, I had one that did not and had cloth seats/power unlock etc. I think this package was a slight discount from the price and likely targeted to fleet type sales although I don’t think SRs are very common at all. Like other models, all the electronics may be in the door to actually unlock and just needs a sensor + fob to do so.

 

Geordan, The install is very easy because of the T-harness (plug and play..I just solder 2 wire connections). You just need to get familiar and decide on all the options (about 20 something options) before you flash the program in to you module. Options like how long you want you truck to idle after remote start, press once to unlock all doors vs priority unlock, and many features you need to decide. You will need four things...module (I used DC3), remote (many options, I used Compustar T12), T-harness for your year model, and FT-DAS-2 (that's the tilt and shock sensor). Good luck.
