I have almost fully reverse engineered all the signals to control the 2018 cluster.

For some reason the only thing not working is the Range value (Miles to Empty)

It is my understanding when low the Range value will show the warning message “Refuel”.

Have you guys with a 2018 seen any other warning messages? Does it seem to only update the value when the truck is moving? I think when parked or key on only it just shows the last calculated value from driving and is not actively calculating a new number.

When you unhook the battery does the cluster show a blank range value (like mine) until you start driving?

Just trying to figure out more about how the Range value operates and you 2018+ owners experience with it.

I think I am missing a message to let the know either the truck is in drive moving or how much fuel is remaining ect.

I haven't unhooked my battery or the cluster in a while, but I'm pretty sure it showed 550 miles to empty immediately on startup the last time I messed with it. I have the 38 gal tank, in case that makes a difference. No other messages that I can think of, outside of low fuel at 0 miles to empty (varies based on the situation if it comes on earlier, but I never run lower than a 1/4 tank).

This makes sense, on my 2014 benchtop cluster as soon as I turn it on and send it a fuel consumption signal the Range jumps to 350 ish. It assumes full tank and like 15 Mpg (or somthing)and then adjust down from there.

Seems on the 2018 I am missing a signal to let it assume an initial value and then adjust accordingly as your drive. Just have to find out where it is..

If anybody else has any input on this I would really appreciate it.

I am hoping to confirm the truck will display a range after being reset (battery disconnected) without having to start the truck or put it into gear. It’s my assumption if reset, as soon as the key is turned on the cluster calculates an assumed value and corrects as you drive.

Starting to think my cluster could be defective . As far as I can tell it should be working as everything else is but my range to empty is just blank.

I finally figured this out today. I come back to this post because I find it somewhat hilarious the way I figured it out was from a CAN log @e30cabrio collected from @TRDFerguson truck. The only person to reply to this thread with inputs months ago was the key to solving it.

Anyway I now have a working range and fuel milage display on my 18 cluster that’s wired into my 2007 RCSB.

Big thanks to both of you guys. Now to drive to let the data “normalize” and certify scaling ect. I had to apply a scale factor to the older CAN data to get accurate results.

I would say currently like 90% of the way there. Few more things to fine tune and lots of driving/testing to look for bugs ect.

Really happy and excited about results so far.

After finding the “enable” code to allow range in your CAN log, I realize it would have been almost impossible to get this working without those logs.

Woot! Range & distance plotting are enabled! Jeff is my hero! & thanks to TRDFerguson for giving me access to his '18 to get the data that was needed for this step forward!
