Hello all. I'm a newbie to this forum as well as being a first time Toyota truck owner. 2 weeks ago I purchased. 2018 Tundra platinum...I decided on this truck over a 2018 Ford F-150 3.5 Ecco boost Lariat. I love the truck but I do notice or feel in the handling just how heavy the truck is. I feel the body roll a bit in curves. So, I'm hoping you guys with experience can tell me if the TRD SWAY BAR is worth it. I talked to my dealership today and asked for a quote: $259 for the part and $259 for install. I think install labor is excessive especially since I just purchased a $50,000 truck.

Sway bar IMO is worth it. Install it yourself and save some $$$.

    Does it improve overall handling?

I hope your dealer gave you a discount...mine gives 15% discount on parts.

I'm not sure about a discount. I'm not sure what the sway bar normally sells for. I do thing $259 to install the sway bar is beyond excessive.

$500 is about the going rate....definitely worth the investment if you don't have a TRD 4x4. Those suspensions are generally tighter with less body roll. With the new TRD Sport being out this year, front sway bars should also be available soon.

I have one and I love it. I feel it was a great investment. Do yourself a favor and install it yourself. You can do it in your driveway, just follow the instructions it comes with. Took me about 45 minutes being OCD and reading the instructions 3x.

My 2018 Limited came with the rear TRD installed as a factory option. I can't compare it to a Tundra without one but can tell you that the truck doesn't have excessive body roll and that it corners well. It feels just as stable as my previous F-150 which also had front/rear stabilizer bars.

I would think your dealer should do a little better on the installation or just do it yourself, it is a simple bolt on.

They are supposed to have a red TRD sway bar. Now I don't know if it will be stiffer than stock or if same painted red with a sticker. We will know soon enough.

Yes, I'll be 99% on street and highway driving. Why is not good for light off-roading?? Just curious?

Sway bar prevents body roll. When you add a sway bar then take off road, the body needs to articulate to climb and maneuver. Taking that into account, why would you put something on your vehicle that prevents you from doing what it needs to do?

Considerably less body roll, and less understeer. I just bought and installed mine about a month ago. I'm almost 71 years old, don't get under a vehicle and back up very fast anymore, but I installed the swaybar in less than 45 minutes. You'll need a 22mm socket (I used a 7/8" instead) and a 19mm socket (plus 19mm wrench to hold the bolt) and a 1/2" drive breaker bar.

Man, if i can do it, you can do it.

BTW, I got mine from Amazon, $234.07 shipped free.

That's what this place is for!

You will also need a torque wrench. Follow the instructions that come with it. I watched a YouTube video that was posted by someone who looked like they knew what they were doing and they installed it wrong. You will have some left over washers, that's normal.

At $259 for install, they're charging you about $500 per hr. in labor. Yeah, I'd say that's a little excessive. It's REALLY easy to install.

I got my sway bar at sparksparts.

Use ‘tundradude34’ to get 5percent off.
    It’s a easy install.
I got it with my 2018 platinum as well. My father in law liked it so much we got it for his Christmas present and installed it without any problems.
If you are driving mostly on the road and not off-road it’s defiitley worth it. Does a good job with body roll. One of the best cheapest investments for the truck.

The rear is well worth the money, it makes a good deal of difference in handling, but you will want to buy the Sequoia front sway bar too. It does the same thing the TRD does for the rear only to the front. Its a thicker wall tubing than the Tundra sway bar.

True, a stiffer front swaybar will reduce body roll even further, but it will also increase understeer. I think the rear bar addition to the non-TRD Pro balances the steering response pretty well, and that a stiffer front swaybar would negate some of what I've gained by adding the rear bar. A matter of preference and just my opinion, of course.

I love the rear trd bar, but off roading is so much fun and I took both bars off. I really wish I could keep both on and have quick disconnects so I can have performance both on and off-road with no limitations.

running boards , TRD sway bar and tundra 08 SR5 wheels. FRACmod, pop&lock and backup sensors installed .
one of the first things I did to mine , worth the $ but not what the dealer quoted you . If you are not into the install stuff just find any local mechanic with a lift and a torque wrench. My dealer only charged me $100 , it took 30 min to do (15 min of work) I drank two cups of Starbucks coffee in the lounge so if figure it only cost me $75 LOL
