I was putting in new tail lights on Monday night on my 2017 Tundra. Got the new tail light assembly’s on and Left side reverse didn’t work and on the right side the brake light didn’t work. Told my son to turn off the truck while I moved some connections. Well, he didn’t turn it all the way off, but left the key in the on position. Think I blew some fuses. Now, my shift lock was engaged, no taillights, no reverse lights and brake lights didn’t work. found as many blown fuses as I could and replaced them. Now shift lock is off and I can shift into drive, reverse etc…., tail (or parking lights) work now, Reverse lights work now, turn signals work but still no brake lights come on. The 3rd brake light on the cab is not working as well. Traction control & ABS light is now on in the dashboard as well.

    I replaced:
•No 10 stop fuse - under the hood
•No 14 ECU IG No 1 fuse - under dash
    •No 20 Tail fuse - under dash
•checked the brake switch, seems good.
•Replaced the battery. It was actually the original factory battery still and went dead while working on tail lights coincidentally.

Any ideas??? I am at a complete loss.

Did you check the fuses with a test light, key on or running ?

I sure did. No. 10 & No. 20 we’re both blown. Replaced and tested those several times after being replaced to.

Fixed! Before I found the fuse under the dash (No. 20) I had gone to O’Reiley’s to get some fuses and figured I would pick up a couple of relays just in case! Pulled both the relays and replaced them with the new relays. Then I changed out the No. 20 fuse under the dash….. which was blown. Well turns out the relays O’Reiley’s gave me were the wrong relays. They fit, only problem was they were 3 pin and not 4 pin relays so they weren’t making the connection needed. If I just would have tried the No. 20 fuse fort with original relays in it would have saved me days of aggrevation…… always check the parts you buy to the originals! Lesson learned!
