Tundra 5.7L 2WD with FULL TOWING PKG - concern. Ready to buy 2017 to 2017 Tundra however need to be sure this truck can pull cross-country a travel Trailer approx 7500GVWR fully loaded. Looking for Tundra owner that has hauled suck a Travel Trlr. Appreciate any advise I can get before I buy Tundra. I'm long time owner of Toyota cars etc think they are the most reliable vehicles ....
Own 2016 Tundra w/DBL cab "TRD 4x4 5.7L Off Road pkg" with 65inch truck bed per the sticker on truck GVWR= 7100lbs our truck has the full towing package plus 38gal gas tank. Per the travel trailer magazine states the tow rating for this unit can pull up to 9,900 lbs.

We wanted to know if anyone has Tundra similar to our details directly above and have been able to use a 5th wheel we realize it must be a very light weight 5th wheel. However just wanted to see if there was a 5th wheel with our our Tundra a possibility.

    Appreciate any feedback ????

What is the payload for your truck?- check the sticker in the drives door. Need to know what you are working with before you consider any camper.

And unless it is one of those super light (3500-4000lbs) Casita type 5th wheels, the answer is no, half ton pickups generally do not have the payload capacity to handle a 5th wheel and Tundras certainly dont.

There are people with similar trucks that tow small 5th wheels. You'll run out of payload long before towing capacity so focus more on truck GVWR/pin weight than gross weight of the 5th wheel you'll be towing

I recommend you hit a scale with your truck loaded as it would be for towing (passengers, gear, fuel, etc). Subtract that weight from 7,100 (GVWR) and you'll have the absolute max pin weight your truck is rated for based on what you carry in the truck.

Note RV manufacturers tend to give the "best case scenario" numbers for hitch/pin weights usually advertising numbers much lower than you'll experience on the road. For this reason, always a good idea to leave some buffer and not intentionally max out or go over GVWR.

It is and that's the one I plan to go with for my next RV. We travel alot and I like that the slide can be in and you still have access to the front.

I mean really....I probably would as well. Finally a decent 5th wheel option.

    Any others you researched out?

The only others that I found that would work was the Escape 5th wheel and the 7' wide Winnebago Minnis. Too small for us. All the others I found had dry pin weights over 1100lbs.

I was actually pretty shocked at the pin weight on the one you plan on getting.

    Learn something new everyday.

Even the loaded max weight was under 10K. A loaded realistic weight would be a 8 to 8.5K so the Tundra shouldn't have an issue.

It'll tow a lot nicer than an equivalently sized travel trailer, too.

By far, that why I'll be going to a 5th wheel. My current RV is around 24' and 550lbs tongue. I want to upgrade to a larger RV but dont want the handling issues that come with a longer TT.
