Hello, I’m new to this forum and I have been a Tacoma owner for the last 4 years but due to growing family I need something a little roomier so I sold the Tacoma couple days ago and now I want a Tundra.

I have been looking at a 2016 sr5 double cab tundra for sale and it was 120k miles on it for a 28k seems high to me, I bought my brand new Tacoma in 2020 for 42 TRD off road.

I also visited the dealership today and checked it out but I couldn’t drive it due to work needing some, strut/shock replacement, serpentine belt replacements alignment and few other things, the truck definitely looked used , minor pin striping and scuffs here and there not too bad.

are all these normal repairs at 120k? Any advice would be awesome

Geez, I'd be tempted to sell you my 2016 Crewmax with 120k and in much, much better condition for $28k, hah. That's pretty steep for the doublecab.

Normal, yes, some of them. I did my suspension with nicer Bilsteins recently. I could probably go with a new belt but frankly mine's not showing any wear so seems a bit of a waste.

I live here in the pnw. Prices are always high for used Toyota trucks. I can’t find much that is 4x4 that’s not 38k or more! There’s a crewmax TRD off road in cement with 43k miles on it for 40k! Just a little high for what I want to spend, both these trucks are 1 owner. The cheaper double cab also came from the Oregon coast and I’m wondering if rust is a concern

I would suggest getting a Crewmax if I were you. I'd been daily driving an '03 Tacoma until I bought my Tundra (2018 Crewmax) in December. I have a friend with an '08 Double Cab Tundra, and I tried putting my daughter's car seat in his truck. I had to push the seat farther forward than I liked (I'm 6'2") for it not to rub on the back of the driver's seat. That convinced me to get a Crewmax. Now I have nearly 12" of space between the car seat and the back of my driver's side seat.

Also, you mentioned prices dealers are asking. Have you looked private party? I got my 2018 Platinum Crewmax 4wd with 67k miles for $36k by checking FB Marketplace and Craigslist (everywhere within 500 miles), for several weeks, until I found the right truck at the right price. Pay for a pre-purchase inspection at a reputable mechanic shop for peace of mind and save thousands off of stealership prices.

i think the space is alright in the double cab, my daughter is 17 months now and is probably gonna be forward facing soon, so I think it should be okay. I also wanted a tundra for the power and to move into a full size, the cabin just felt cramped in the Tacoma I also had the short bed. I’d like to have a 6+ ft bed again to sleep in and haul more stuff. The crewmax isn’t out of the question though….

I have been checking out marketplace for sure.

Fair enough. For me I simply figured I'm much more likely to load up the cabin with people, shopping bags, luggage, etc, than load up the bed with more than what a 5.5' bed holds anyway.

Kinda trying to future-proof my purchase should we have more kids. And I plan to get a dump trailer down the road to address the smaller bed issue anyway, because my truck came with a camper shell that I've grown to like.

Yeah I’m actually looking at a crewmax too. It’s a 2019, cement in TRD off road configuration. 43k miles one owner, problem is it’s 40k. It’s tempting for sure.

There is plenty of space in a Double Cab. I had a 2000 for 22 years and we raised two daughters. While interior room was never an issue, I was always glad to have the extra bed space for truck gear, all of our outdoor gear, two large dogs and to sleep in when wanted. The 2021 DC has significantly more interior room, than the 2000, but if you don't use the bed as much, then I can see the attraction of the CrewMax.

I have a double cab and it hauls people just fine. I just wanted the bigger bed.

I think the double cab will be more than enough room, plus I had a Tacoma with the 5ft bed for the last 4 years and it was one of the biggest regrets I had with that truck along with color choice ( black ) I don’t want to make those mistakes again with the Tundra.

I’m actually going to look a 2017 double cab this evening with clean title one owner and maintenance record at 107k he’s asking 26k I think that’s a fair deal. If all checks out I should own a tundra by the weekend.

I've had my double cab through both rear and forward facing car seats and have had zero issues. The back seat fits most adults just fine and the extra bed space comes in very handy. In fact, the double cab on the Tundra has two inches more rear seat legroom than the full four door Tacoma has.

Just for something to compare to, I just bought a 2016 Double Cab Limited with 116K miles that looks like it just rolled off the new showroom floor.
    I paid right at $25K.

I came out of my 1st gen Tundra and the backseat had grown unusable for my daughter. In the 2.5gen DC, I put the drivers seat where I want it and then get in the back with 3-4 inches to spare before they touch the drivers seat. I'm 6' with 34" inseams.

The Crew Cab is cavernous but I don't have backseat passengers that often and I would never give up the 6.5' bed for it.
