Have a 2015 that has had an annoying issue for awhile now. 90k miles on truck. Since I've had it at around 45k I have noticed a tapping in the steering wheel which is more noticeable when turning but also felt when driving straight. Can be felt more at the bottom of the steering wheel. It is really noticeable when backing up with the wheel cut in my gravel driveway. I have inspected the intermediate steering shaft for play and see none. I cannot feel it when stopped and I turn the wheel back and forth. It feels solid when I do so. Inspected tie rods for play as well. Would really like to figure this out. Bilstein 5100's in middle setting were installed at about 55k. Had Michelins at the time and new tires recently have not affected it. Thanks for any input in advance!

I’ve got a similar issue with my ‘18 CM.

do you have a power telescopic column? If I slide my wheel forward 1/2”, the clunking goes away. I haven’t been able to find the root of the problem yet…

Thanks for the input. I have a manual adjust. I will try adjusting to see if I notice a change. I can really feel it the most when backing up with the wheel cut in my gravel driveway. If I come to a stop when backing up and wiggle the wheel back and forth it feels fine. When you say forward, do you mean telescope or tilt?

My preset seating position telescopes the wheel about 95% toward the seat. After it sets itself, the wheel will clunk up and down a little. My fix is to fully extend the telescopic function and then run it back in a fuzz. The clunkiness is usually gone at that point.

No luck with telescope/tilt changes. I spent some time under the front end a few weekends ago checking all the bolts in front end. Had a few that I got some movement on, however none were loose. Wish I knew a good Toyota suspension guru to help. Taking it to my local dealer would be pointless and costly.
