Hello. I am new to this forum. I have a 2015 tundra 4x4 tss with the 5.7 engine. The truck has 75k on it but the engine is making a little noise. I came across a smoking deal on a 2016 trd 4x4 with 13k for $2000. I bought the wrecked one in hopes of swapping engines and maybe even trans and whatever else I want. My question is this: Is it worth it to do all that work for a 13k mike engine and drive train, or would the work involved be more trouble and headache than I would be ready for? I am older engines savvy but this new may give me fits. Thanks for an advice.

Sounds like a great deal! 13 k is nothing. Brand new. So is 75k. Are you sure your engine is bad? These tend to sound like a diesel at idle.

If you are going to do the swap I read a thread recently where they pulled the cab and dropped the whole engine and trans at once. Said it was much easier.

15whtrd that’s a great idea. As far as my current engine is concerned, I’m sure it would last and not have many problems for a while; but, for $2000 plus some hard work I can basically get a brand new drive train and have a truck that I hope to keep forever. The wrecked truck was totaled due to a heavy front hit and rollover. I put a booster box on the battery and it started right up! Sounds brand new. If I pull the cab, bed, and fended on both trucks and have them side by side, I bet it wouldn’t be so bad. My other question is wiring. I don’t want to have issues with my new motor when I’m done, so I want to be sure I can do it without any problems.

I’m not experienced in particular with this specific swap. But it should be a direct plug-and-play. As they didn’t change anything from 15 to 16

You can probably make some money back parting out some of the other parts too. Does it have bucket seats? There was someone on here looking for a new stereo a short while ago.
    Where ya located?

I’m in Lubbock Texas. I do have the factory nav radio as well as lots of other parts. It does not have bucket seats though. If anyone knows anyone that needs anything let me know. I’m sure I could sell the 13k mile motor for a good price too, but I would really like to swap them. It would be a fun project too.. I think...

Engine swap sounds like a fun of work to do for an engine "making a little noise" with only 75k on the clock. Have you looked into getting the noise diagnosed? It very likely could be repaired for less than the 2k you paid for the wrecked truck.

You should part out the totaled one on this site. Stuff will go quick.

The totaled truck is a silver 2016 crew max 4x4 trd 5.7L. I have the factory nav, engine and drive train, interior is good(no buckets), the only exterior panels that are usable are the 2 rear doors, and they have some minor dents on them. I have the 18 inch wheels but the 2 fronts are scratched up. The rears are perfect.

@Dentdaddy if I were you I would hit 50 posts, work out removing anything you want from the 16', and parting out whatever is left on here.

How long have you had your 15'? My 14' sort of sounds like a diesel when it idles, it did from day 1. If I didn't buy the truck new I would have thought it was odd but it's just the way our engines normally sound.

So your first decision after hearing a little noise was to go buy a second engine from a junk yard? o_O No more details about the noise to provide us with? Not trying to be rude, but it just seems weird to me. 75k miles is barely getting broke in especially for a tundra.

I'd say you got a smokin' deal on the wrecked one but the swap would be too much work for me. If your engine doesn't sound right, isn't it still under warranty? 75k isn't a lot of mileage for the 5.7. Also, your VIN #s wouldn't match and that might cause an issue if you were ever to try and sell your truck?
I think you should find a decent Taco and throw the motor in it...lol
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. You got more balls than I do taking on this project.

How are the bumper ends are they chrome? I'm in San Antonio, looking to Line-X my chrome, I'de prefer just taking caps in to get Line-x over taking mine off that way I can still drive while getting done!

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
I might be looking for a complete bed and tailgate and rear bumper I wish it was white (it can always be painted) to fit a 2015 Toyota Tundra crew-max
