Hello Everyone! New to the forum and first time Tundra owner. Recently purchased a 2014 Tundra and have seen a few videos about installing a 2016+ factory integrated brake controller into a 2015. I was curious if it functions correctly or does it lack full control (saw a few comments on the video that mentioned at low speeds, it appears to function, but at higher speeds, it was evident that it does not function correctly)? Also, has anyone ever installed one in a 2014? I like the factory look over installing a traditional aftermarket controller.
Here is the YouTube video that I mentioned above:

Another option I used to use on a different vehicle was the Curt wireless bluetooth brake controller. Plugs into the seven wire plug, plug in trailer and your phone becomes the brake controller with free app installed.
Can be easily used on multiple vehicles. Stores up to seven vehicles settings. No phone service required as it was direct connection between controller and phone.
I have kept it even though my truck has an integrated, in case wife ever has to tow anything with brakes.

Thanks @Petro. I’ll have to look into it. No issues with it performing correctly?

To provide a partial answer to your question; Installing the factory controller requires that your truck has the factory wiring harness. There weren’t too many years and models that came with the wiring but not the controller. My 2015 Pro is one, and in 2016 I installed the factory controller. In my case, it has worked perfectly and trouble free.

Does your truck have the switch plate knockout with blanks on the plastic piece to the side of the steering column where the controller goes?

If so, look behind it and see if there are some unused harness plugs tucked up there. If so, you may be in luck.

I don’t think any 2014 models had the harness but am not sure.

Thanks @gosolo! I was planning to take a look behind the panel just to see if the wiring happened to be there. Even it does have it, I wasn’t sure the computer logic would be there for it to work correctly. Was curious if anyone w/ 2014 had attempted before just to know. Thanks again!

Thing worked pretty good. Maybe lost bluetooth connection a couple times for a minute or two. I blame my older phone for that. Even have issues with my phone staying linked to the Tundra. But they say it remembers your settings and brakes and lights still function, but the trailer only slide/button on my phone would be disabled for that short period.
