A little over a year ago my wife briefly lost her mind and told me to go ahead and buy a newer Tundra. I wanted to upgrade from my '0,2 4.7L, SR5 that I had had for many fun & faithful years and we needed a little something extra to help pull our 26' travel trailer. I began my internet search and found some decent trucks here and there, but nothing that spoke to me. After several hours of looking, I found it!!!! A white 2013 TRD Tundra, 5.7L, 6 speed. I loved the look and the stance.....it was screaming "Take me home!" I called our local CarMax and they had the truck sent up from Clearwater. The moment I laid eyes on her I knew I had to have her. All the salesmen were huddled around her and one told me that if I didn't take her, he was. We took her for a spin and that was it, I was in love and had to take this beauty home with me. Unfortunately I had to sell my truck in order to purchase my new ride. As fate would have it, one of the guys at my station wanted my old truck and I had it sold within 2 days. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the beast, but I had to finish up my shift at the station. I had it all worked out to get a ride to the dealership and take delivery. Sadly, a horrible accident occurred on the interstate that morning and it took me nearly 3 hours to get all the way around town to the dealership to finally bring my baby home.

Next came the aftermarket towing mirrors from 1A Auto.com - $246.95. The wife and I have a 26' travel trailer we use regularly for camping trips and the stock mirrors weren't able to do the job. The swap out was very quick and easy once the mirrors arrived. I watched a YouTube video to find all the little nuances to pulling off the door card and changing out the mirrors. Total time, 15-20 each side!0014.jpg 0017.jpg

Once home I knew I had to do a few things to bring her up to speed and get her ready for her new life as the Tactical Tundra 2.0! First I had to put a topper on that bed. I chose the Ranch topper with full side windows from a local shop, total cost - $1400. I took a lot of grief for this from my friends and co-workers, but I absolutely needed the dry storage space. People called it the Tactical Sequoia, but I didn't care, I thought she looked great. The reason I chose a topper over a Backflip, lid, or tonnau cover was due to ease of access and the amount of dry space I needed. I didn't want to drill holes for drain tubes and I can't get all the gear I need to carry with me wet. I've had a lid before and I absolutely hated it, especially when all your gear slams to the front of the bed and you can't reach it.0019.jpg

After that came the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller from etrailer.com - $144.15 + $14.99 for the Toyota wiring adaptor. Install was a snap and took another 20 minutes. This is absolutely the best trailer brake controller I've ever had and I highly recommend it to anyone who tows a trailer.

I picked up a set of front and back WeatherBeater floor mats from Husky - $119. I think they came from Amazon, not sure. Along with those I ordered a dash mat for around $60 from Dashmat.com. Here in Florida the sun is brutal and eats dashboards for lunch. Just wanted to protect the investment - Floors and dash.0023.jpg 0024.jpg

After all that came the requisite K&N air filter for $59.99. Nothing fancy, just a quick swap out for the stock air filter. Maybe someday, when I win the lottery, I'll upgrade to the TRD cold air intake and a super charger!!0013.jpg

The stock stereo was the next to go, it just didn't have everything I needed in a stereo system. I researched for several days and found the Sony WX-GT90BT from Crutchfield. It had the Bluetooth and hands free phone features I was after, plus it was satellite ready and has a whole host of features that the stock system didn't have. The reviews on Amazon and Crutchfield were mostly positive and I've had no problems with mine. I highly recommend purchasing from Crutchfield for your stereo install needs. The system came with install sheets that made the install a breeze, all required wiring, and a new face plate.

Last night I changed out my stock interior, license plate, and reverse lights for LEDs. They look awesome and I can't wait to back into my driveway at night....LOL.
Some of my upcoming projects will include:

    Auxiliary backup lights
    Blackout/Plastidip Badges/Emblems
    Home made lighting for bed/topper
    Seat Covers
Underseat storage and lighting (front & back)
    Upgrade exhaust system
    Stubby antenna??? Maybe

Oooh! Before I forget.......I wanted to share a small issueI had when I first picked up my truck. I noticed in a couple spots in the bed and along the step rails that I was getting a little rust staining breaking through the paint. On the step rails it was mainly on the drivers and passengers side steps. I purchased two cans of the Rust-O-Leam truck bed paint, cleaned the bed and steps with a brush, allowed to dry completely before I masked off the steps and began painting. I haven't had a lick of trouble since and all is holding up well.

Thanks Sean. I'm going to take your idea for the auxiliary reverse lights. I got the lamps in last night and can't wait to get started. I'll post pics when I get started. BTW.....is there a list of forum rules? I was looking last night after posting my stereo and couldn't find them.

I have been a busy boy! I've been wanting to install auxiliary backup lights for a while. Thanks to Sean's post, I got the materials and just did it. Didn't take very long, they look great, and they light the world behind my truck like the sun!29555.jpg

Today, I DIY'd a dome light for the back/topper. I went back and forth for a while on how to install and settled on running a line straight to the battery. That way I can have the lights on in the back without having to turn on the marker lights.

It was clean as a whistle! Except for the French fries in the back passengers door pocket. This truck and I belong together, like peas and carrots!

Knocked out a little plasti-dipping between runs at the fire station yesterday. I'm really digging the new look, it's subtle yet sick!!!

Take a look at this vid
    .
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGBOteFrPfo

The only thing I removed from the truck was my front grill assembly because it was easier to do that than mask off the whole front end of the truck. If you don't mask off your truck very good and you get overspray on the paint, take a dry cotton towel and wipe off. Personally, I masked off the truck pretty good, (See above photos) but I did have a little overspray to clean off. No problems!

You've done a hell of a job on your truck man. Makes me want to leave work now and go play around with mine! Keep it up. Might steal some of your ideas.
