2012 Tundra Bed lean

I know there are several threads on this but I don’t know where to put what on the truck to correct the problem. The bed on my truck sags at the back on the passenger side.(I see where most sag on the drivers side) I got under it on a level slab and the back of the passenger leaf spring, where it connects to the shackle is approximately 1.5 inches lower than the driver side leaf spring in the same spot. I put a new set of springs on the passenger side and it did not correct the problem. I hear about shims but I’m not sure where exactly they go and how that could correct the problem. Any help is appreciated.

But pass side looks jacked up.
Axle looks shifted, driver side slightly off looking also.

 

Could be a blown out shock...

 

How is that possible - you put new leaf springs on and it still sags 1.5"?! What is the actual tire to fender gap on each side, is there a 1.5" difference?

Toytec sells some leaf spring shims for rear leveling, but your talking about 1/2" shim - not one and a half! Something is not right, has the truck been in an accident?

Doesn't look like the leafs are center on the pins. The rear axle appears to be shimmied or pushed back.

 

The leaf springs are a bit longer on one side of the hole than the other. Is it possible that you have the one you installed reversed?

 

I definitely think that is the problem from looking at the pictures

Probably not. He may have had a weak leaf spring. But I'd be willing to bet IF it turns out that the new one is reversed, installing it correctly would bring him closer to even.

Usually the side that leans is the driver's side...

 

I'm no expert, but have been through the woes of installing new suspension and trying to get it even on both sides.

 

Or maybe the pin on the axle popped out of the hole when he was tightening things back up. Boy... That would make for a bad day going down the freeway.

 

Guessing reversed spring to fix the centering issue and original issue was blown out shock. Did you buy this truck like this?

 

Oh crap, did not see that, yes passenger side is screwed!

 

Why does blown shock keep coming back? The leafs are load bearing in the rear. How would a blown shock result in decreased ride height? Take the shock out, truck static, nothing changes.

 

The driver side shock all I see is a chrome shaft where a shock body should be - what kind of shock is that?

 

It didn’t come back. He never changed it. He changed the leaf spring. The shocks hold weight. They are constantly pushing apart. That is why they are strapped closed when you buy them. I’m only speculating but if the shock were blown out it wouldn’t be exerting that pressure and the spring would be bearing more weight and sagging.

 

Looks like an RCD/Bilstein for lifted applications

 

Okay gotcha, I meant no shock "boot" - not body; Bilstein makes sense.

 

I don’t think this is quite true. See my post above. When I installed my shock I had to jack up the truck somthe suspension dropped apart enough to fit the shock. It’s not going to depress as far with the shock in there. That’s why you need a jack to change shocks. If they are not load bearing and what you say is true you should be able to change shocks without jacking up the truck. The bolts could just be removed, but they can’t because they are held down by the portion of the load they are bearing.

 

Springs support weight.
Shocks do not hold weight, purpose of a shock is to control/dampen a spring.

 

I see what your saying, but however small, it is bearing weight. In theory you are correct but since there is a force being exerted by the shock on the truck ( outward pressure proven by the strap that comes on them), then the truck pushes back(equally and opposed). It’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it’s something. It’s enough to make it impossible to compress without mechanical aid, I’ll tell you that much.

 

OP also check that you didn’t slip a block or something. If the truck was lifted in the rear with blocks ( which is possible judging by what some are saying are shocks for lifted applications) it may have come out! See if you have one on the driver side on the leaf.

 

Sorry, trying to play catch up on the responses. Thanks for replying. I bought the truck a couple months ago just like it sits. It has a 2 inch leveling kit that was on it when I bought it. I didn’t notice the sag when I bought it. My mistake. It had the same sag before I replaced the passenger leaf spring. The bottom of the fender well is approximately 2 inches lower from level ground on the sagging side. I had it installed by a local mechanic who has fixed vehicles many times for me so if it was installed incorrectly, it was incorrect before as well as the new leaf spring made no difference.

 

Also, the truck was in an accident before I bought it but from everything I could find, it was a minor front end collision.

 

Happen to snag any pics of the suspension?

 

Take pics of the shackles as well. Not sure if a worn bushing would cause this but something is definitely F’d up my friend. I would be wary of driving the ol girl in that condition.
