2012 - too much rust? What’s a good price?

    Hi-
Looking at this 2012 Grade 4.6L with 125k miles. Drives great. Super clean inside. Clean carfax with regular maintenance. Couple of questions:
    - is this too much rust?
    - what’s a good price? They want 20k but I’m thinking 19? Assuming it passes the rust threshold.
    Thanks!

Ranch Hand Summit front and rear bumpers. Diamondback SE tonneau cover. Rigid DOT fogs. LED headlight/fog replacement bulbs. Matt Gecko hood, and bed LED's. Foot well led's, and interior LED buld replacement. (warm) Broke the front shock of the 3" spacer lift, so replaced with 6112/5160 and 1' block rear. KO 2's. Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
That is a lot of rust for the price. Given the premium on the price I would imagine it wouldn’t be hard to find a less rusty option.

Way too much rust for me. I picked up my '12 with a few little items to fix specifically because it had zero rust. Find a truck that lived somewhere dry with no road salt.

That's mostly surface rust. If taken care of it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know what Tundras are going for these days so I don't know if that's too much. Finding a rust free truck isn't as easy as it sounds. A lot of the rusty trucks get sent to the southern states so just finding one down there can be an issue. Then, unless you live or know someone down there, you are buying sort of blind. You can see pictures but that's not always enough. I did it but had a friend in S Carolina who inspected it for me. A good place to start is with the carfax report. It'll tell you were the truck lived it's life. Mine never left SC and looks like new underneath.

I don’t see anything too concerning, unless you want it to last 10+ years. Take a look at the hitch, bed cross members, shocks and manifolds. No comment on price these days, I bought trucks similar to that for 10-12k over the years.

That's a crazy price for 2019 but it seems pretty standard for 2022. The rust can be cleaned up if you put the time in (maybe 20-40 hours). If not it still has quite a few years left.

As a rust belt aficionado, the pics you posted look fairly superficial / surface rust to me. $20k is ballsy but this market is stupid.

Private sale? Id look the owner straight in the eyes and offer $15k. That’s still high for a 10 yr old Grade double cab with the smaller engine, but that’s still a good offer for 2022.
