What are these parts? I have changed my oil a number of times and this had not happened. These two parts along with a spring fell into the catch when pulling the filter cartridge. TIA.

    None....
Your oil filter housing fell apart. I just use the stock one so I have no experience with putting the inside back together.

I know when you switch over to the metal one you have to take the spring and parts you are showing from the plastic one and swap them to the metal one. You got to bend some tab or something. The "Metal Heads" will chime in. But I have been using the plastic ones for over 13 years and have had no problems if you want to just buy a new one. But the "Metal Heads" will tell you the plastic one is junk.

You pic looks like a metal one but maybe im wrong...

Maybe try searching for " metal filter housing" you should be able to see how to swap the innards back and forth and how to put it back together.

Just assembled one yesterday. The spring goes in-between those 2 pieces. The plate shown in the middle goes in the bottom of the housing, spring compresses against it when you lock that other plate. It pushes down and twist in. Then the metal tabs are supposed to be pushed out, to prevent that from happening again.
Where is the screen at? It goes on the other side of the bottom plate shown in pic.

If you didn't put that cap on yourself then the previous owner did. The OEM cap is black plastic. If I were you I'd go grab one from a dealer. There's no chance of breaking the housing if you are doing your own oil changes. The plastic cap got a bad rap because if they are put on too tight people have broken them getting them off but messing around with that spring is not a great idea since it is what controls the oil by pass pressure and is set to a specific PSI.

This diagram is incorrect for the question. There is a bypass valve in the filter housing to allow oil to flow when the filter media becomes clogged. Please delete or edit your post.

Sorry , posted incorrectly. The large spring keeps the housing drain closed..

Thanks! The spring acts as a controlled force to control how much oil is filtered. As the filter media fills with pollutants, the pressure would increase and volume would decrease if there wasn't a bypass. Very critical often overlooked component here. Obviously, one doesn't want too low or too high oil pressure. Low, poor lube, roasted engine. High, blown seals and or gaskets. Hope this makes sense.
