Sorry for this to be my first post on an issue that has been covered a lot. I've read many threads but I'm seeking confirmation to my thinking.

I bought a 2012 CM 4x4 with 5.7L. The truck has been extremely well maintained having 27 oil changes recorded on the service record with the dealer. After I bought it, I took it to my mechanic to just have him look it over. After getting it on the rack, he said it had a noise in the rear of the motor. Rear main to be specific. Thoughts are loose wrist pin.

To give some specifics, the truck was warmed up, and DID NOT make noise at idle while in park. It DID make the noise, on the rack, in gear, at idle. The noise is very faint but can be heard especially in a garage where the noise can reverb off the walls.

From reading these forums, I've come to the conclusion that....THIS IS NORMAL for this engine? Am I correct on that or am I about to have a big fat paperweight of a truck?

Forgot to mention, the truck runs great and has zero issues other than the faint knock. Thanks!

Mine has that Diesel sound and has had it for the 30K miles I put on it since I got it. If that is what you hear then I don't think it's a problem.

Mine has 145k and makes this noise. The truck runs great so I've decided not to be concerned.

Mine at 30k has valve train noise. Toyota even put a giant block of foam in there to damper things. It's a big, old school engine with a barn like engine compartment. It'll throw a code if things go wrong.

    Your overthinking it. Drive it.

You can try running 5w-30 syn oil instead of 0w-20; that will help quiet things down. My Pro had a ghost knock from day 1. It will always sound noisy during initial warm up or when driving through a drive thru, but not to worry, it’s the nature of the beast.

Same. Not really a big deal. Noticed the noise on my 2017 and this 2019 within 20-30 miles on them. It's not an Audi, and won't ever sound like one. Let the truck be a truck!

I have to be honest, I kinda like the diesel noise it makes. Truck is super solid. Mine is a 2012 limited crewmax 4x4 with 145k on it. The truck was babied and has had 27 oil changes over its life. I went to Oklahoma and picked it up then drove it back to Florida. I only paid 16,500 and I feel like I got a heck of a deal.
