My 2005 F-150 died, cracked frame ended it's life at 180K. I need a truck but as the Ford hasn't been my daily driver for a few years, I'm torn between buying a truck that's as old and cheap as I can manage or trading in my car and getting a better truck that can be my only vehicle.

Either way it's going to be a used Tundra. Don't know why I missed this fact 10 years ago but Tundras look like WAY better choices than F-150's if buying high mileage used.

I might have to pay 9 or 10K for a Toyota with close 200K on it. Seems crazy but they do seem to keep on going.

Advice or even idle opinion most appreciated.

    Thanks!

I just purchased an 08 Crewmax after selling my 4Runner. Check for the usual Toyota stuff (rust, working 4x4 actuators).

Register yourself and run the VIN on Toyota Owners Club for dealer records. The mycarfax app will reveal some basic service history too if reported (I also use it to track my personal maintenance).

Do your due diligence with any used car purchase and the rig will treat you well ... aside from the AIP failure. Cross your fingers.

I never dreamed I would spend $24K on a 2015 with 76K. But I did for a certified. Trucks are crazy expensive. But everything I every drove before 2010 was GM and swore after that never again. I'd balance whats on the clock versus what's left. 200K is too high for me after a got rid of a car already with 230K. Check into the base gen 3 models like the contractor grades if you're looking for utility. Also, 4WD and the 5.7 drive the price harder. I don't regret paying more for the 5.7
