Can you clarify the question? Not sure what you are asking here.

I thought it took a dealership or locksmith to program these keys.

The auto section of Walmart has Toyota chip keys, and they can cut and program them as well.

About $70 for the key and programming.

You can buy a plain key for cheap, that will only unlock the doors.

Pretty sure these have to be done with software. I had a fob and key programmed for my 2008 Limited. It was about $160 as I recall.

Mine was free @ the dealership. They tried to charge me $50 but I told them free activation was part of the purchase. They gave in.

I went to a locksmith with a replacement alarm fob. 75.00 and it took him 45 seconds. I tried 20 times with the directions furnished by the fob seller.......never worked. Call around first, not all locksmiths do it.

Be careful not to get stuck with an aftermarket key that has a battery.
I went to a local ace hardware store for a key for my tacoma and the key has a cr2322 battery inside.
Truck will not start without this battery. I tried. Now I need two batteries to start my truck. Stupid.

Aaah you can just get a key ordered from Amazon and a Techstream cable for less than the $70 bucks. Download techstream (which you can find free) on your laptop and easily program your own keys.

My 2007 came with only 1 key so I got 2 keys for Tundra (you have to look up the key type) of Amazon and this exactly the above and get both keys programmed.

If your in Atlanta I can help you with it. Let me know.

2008 has a DOT key, that’s not the same as a G key so programming will be different.

Can you please educate me on the Dot key? Is it literally the dot in the key shaft you are talking about?

The small dot at the base of the key. It identifies the type of key.

Going from my old foggy memory here, I had-have a key project going on myself and this is what I’ve compiled.
In 07/09 they had tundras with the (dot key), literally a dot in the key shaft. Later they moved to the (G) keys, same thing but with the letter on the shaft. People claimed the key cycling and door open truck works, I never got mine to register as they key needs to be cloned.

A lot of information is floating around on how to program the keys but in the end the easiest thing is find a local locksmith. Less headaches and cheaper.

From what I can recall the dot keys need to be cloned and typically won’t require techstream. Later changes to the tundra in the mid year refresh 10-13 had only options to go to the dealer or buy the tech stream to program. I don’t know a whole lot about G keys as my trucks an 08.
