My 08 tundra 5.7 starts then dies immediately. I can get a jump then it will stay running.any ideas? I put a new battery in but it still did it. It is an intermittent problem. It seems like there isnt enough voltage to make the systems work.

What's the voltage at the battery with engine running?

    Have you checked faults?

You may have a draw on the battery causing it to discharge, possible grounding issue. So this may take about 10 to 30 minutes. When you turn the truck on, let it idle for a moment and watch the idle, if it starts to drop give it some gas and run it up to 1k to 1.5k for a few seconds and let it idle normally again. Watch the idle and see if it continues to drop, if it does do this cycle again. Again it is time consuming I've done this before and it does it about once a month since I don't drive it as much, but I put the blame on the battery since it tends to slide a little bit since its not that big, its an Optima and the battery tie down is too tall for it. After this it idles fine and works fine. It may be the alternator starting to go bad, or it may be an actual draw.

Ok thanks , I was thinking it didn’t have enough juice to keep engine firing. But it’s puzzling because there seems to be plenty to start motor. But then with a jump it stays running. I was thinking about getting a deep cycle yellow Top optima. Might just be a crutch though .

I’ll check for a grounding issue.

I have a yellow top deep cycle and it still kills it... What I do is instead of taking it to the shop and have it recharged for an hour I drop it in my car and drive it or 20 minutes and reinstall it and it works fine again.

edit: it appears it grounds out as all power gets cut out as soon as I turn the key, so it may be a grounding issue.

Ok , so you take it out of the truck and install it in your car then put it back in your truck? So you think this problem is a low voltage issue?

yes. It might be. may be poor contact with the ground as I've also shifted the ground on the battery. I've also pulled off the ground, cleaned the contacts on both ends and reconnected the battery. Its on tight, but it still shifts around slightly. I've also re-tighten the grounding points next to the battery.

I have had the same intermittent problem in my 2008 Toyota Tundra, 5.7L. It starts, then immediately dies. Start it again, then dies….4 or 5 times, then runs normally. You may want to clean your Mass Airflow Sensor. There are some good videos on removing, cleaning. Use ONLY Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner, plus, no rags, no brushes, etc. spray and let dry. Small Phillips screws, so be careful removing and reinstalling. Unplug connector before you remove, plus clean all areas around MAF sensor, before removing.mm
