Question for all fellow Tundra owners! I was considering replacing the 3rd brake light housing for an aftermarket LED one from Amazon. My biggest concern is removing the original and compromising the seals. Should I avoid doing this to prevent leaks? Has anyone else done this with any issues? Let me know, thanks!

I put this in my 07 and I have 0 complaints so far after having put it in a little over 5 months ago. Really nice and high quality LEDs and haven't had any leaks so far. I will say that replacing the old one is a major PITA but its definitely worth it. I ended up tearing out the old seal completely with a plastic scraper and some rubbing alcohol and just used the "squishy like" foam seal that came with the new one pre-applied. Unfortunately I don't have any real good pictures of it installed but I will say the pictures on Amazon don't really do it justice for how good they actually look in person. It also comes with a little switch were you can have it either stay solid once you press the brake or have it flash a few times first if you're into that kind of thing. Here's the link...

P.S. I got the smoked version because of my black truck but I believe they have other options available if you don't want it blacked out.

This would be the easiest but I installed new taillights and now that housing shows its age compared to new..

Perfect thanks for the reply! I’ve seen the process for it and definitely doesn’t look easy. So just making sure it’s worth it. I just installed new taillights so I think this will make it look so much cleaner

For whatever 3rd tail light you decide to chose, the best advice I can give you is to prep it the right way. Make sure you get a good seal all the way around it or you'll have a leak into the cab :)

What aftermarket tail lights did you go with?

I just scavenged my phone and this is the only picture I have with the cargo light on with the new 3rd brake light if it gives you any idea on what it looks like.

I found some that look almost like the ones on the new 3rd Gen Tundras. I took a gamble because they seemed new so there weren’t a whole lot of reviews or pictures of them actually on the truck, but it definitely paid off. It’s all LEDs in the housing and look amazing. Wish I had a picture to post, they really make the truck look newer. They do make a smoked version as well, here’s the link the ones I bought.
