    Hello Tundra people,

I have a 2021 Limited that I blacked out and love.

Reason I got it I also have a 2007 that has about 100k miles on it and use it now as my Truck truck if that makes sense... Haul stuff ... remodel demo to the dump etc..

After sitting most of the winter the starter wouldn't turn over... got a new battery... checked connections, fuses cleaned the connections... watched YouTube and called a few shops about the starter.. 7 hrs labor and have to take off the exhaust manifold.. I tried but just couldn't get to it on my own... so $1400 later ... I now have a new starter...

But.... when I start it now... the shifter is stuck in P and I need to open that little latch, use a screwdriver and push down that little button to get it into D... so my question is... what the heck is it that is preventing it from shifting... Yes the brake is depressed... I looked into the "neutral switch" but that seems to not allow the rig to start in Drive or Neutral... not prevent the actual shifter from moving...

Hopefully someone here has experienced this and can give me some direction. I really don't want to take it in again but doesn't seem to be much info out there on this issue.

As always, love this group and the base of knowledge... I was going to try ChatGPT but that would be my last resort.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Brake switch? There’s a release that’s supposed to occur when stepping on the brake pedal. The button you’re accessing to release is the override in case that switch fails.
