Does anyone have experience installing a used Transfer Case on their Tundra? My TC is making a whining noise in 4hi, but not 2hi, or 4lo, and I've already had the gear oil flushed with no effect. I'd like to proactively replace it.

The used parts market seems to have plenty of Transfer Cases to choose from, but I'm getting mixed answers when it comes to doing a simple swap of one TC for another, without also swapping the matching ECU (behind the glovebox). When I priced a new TC at ToyotaPartsDeal.com they responded that the ECU has to be changed at the same time.

Is there a year range that I can stay in and not need to do an ECU swap, e.g., 2007 - 2013?

I have an 07 tundra 5.7 v8. One of the motors in my actuator went bad and Toyota no longer makes the part. Was going to be crazy expensive for the retrofit so I bought a used 2013 transfer case with 83k miles on it and and swapped it. So far so good. Did not have to change the ECU so far.

Yes, stick with 2007-2013. They made slight changes to 2014+.
