I can’t even begin to tell you what all has gone on. Bought truck from a friend. Set for a year. Jumped it off and drove it a few weeks. Battery died and replaced it. Then went to shit. Security system got locked, horn wouldn’t stop, all lights were on. Later wouldn’t accelerate. Wouldn’t hold charge. Gear shit won’t move. And so on……tried resetting my unhooking battery. Didn’t work. Lots of crazy things. For the last month I have YouTubed, googled, search forums etc doing everything possible to try to solve each issue one at a time. I can’t even take it to a mechanic without towing it. This is where I’m at now. I just checked every fuse in both panels again. It will now hold a charge for a while. It did set for several days and wouldn’t start do something is draining the battery as well. Jumped it off this morning and now it will accelerate. ABS and brake lights are on. Emergency brake is not engaged. Brake fluid is full. Will not go into gear. However I just noticed none of the radio/AC/heater turns on. If you read this far thank you…and send help! Lol this momma is about googled out.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble! I would be concerned about possible rodent damage to the wiring if it sat for an extended period.

Very possible. Would it have had issue though when I first got it? I drove it for several weeks before I put the new battery in it. It immediately started losing charge and then I think the terminals got crossed one of the times and put it in anti-theft mode.

Welcome to vehicle electrical systems 101

You have a major power delivery issue somewhere. A large part of the truck is “dark” and most likely not being supplied voltage from the battery to run properly.

Your first post had me leaning toward a bad main fuse, your second post saying “I think the terminals got crossed one time” makes me more strongly believe you could have a bad main fuse (at least partially)

    Few questions.

    1) What year, cab size, engine is your Tundra.

    2) Do you have a digital multimeter and can you do some voltage measurements to verify power?

There is probably more to this.... Terminals were crossed?? Then a rodent may be ruled out, but systems may have been grounded. A tow truck driver contracted by AAA did this same thing, before he jumped in his truck I noticed my battery smoking and I yanked out the cables. I would second what @Jeff_5_7 stated.

I went through every single fuse under the hood and inside. I replaced 2 beforehand

it will not read a OBD. I think when they added the trailer brake they crossed something or unhooked something.

Main Fuses are really hard to tell if they've been damaged. I killed 1 in a Camry, had to pull it out to see it was dead..

I pulled every single fuse and replaced the only 2 bad ones. I didn’t check any relays (no way to do that myself) maybe I’m missing something? Should I just replace the main ones anyway? Those are the only ones I didn’t buy extras

I'd search a youtube video on how to test relays as they're more expensive to just replace in comparison to fuses.

I did pull them all out one by one….however looking at the fuse chart just wondering if I’m missing a “main” one. The “system starting” fuse is bad so I just pulled that one but all the others show good.

Ok but do you have a voltmeter? To check for voltage.

The "Main" fuse is not a normal fuse you just pull out and replace quickly. It is bolted inside the fusebox and takes some time to replace

Yes I do have a voltage meter. And honestly I saw that when I was looking at it just figured there was nothing under it since it was bolted down. Ok….going to check it out. Thanks!

The main fuse is inside the red box. It is a large "cartridge" type block of fuses, like 4 or 5. Each little window looks down on the fusible link. If any of them are burned up or broken the fuse is bad.
Sometimes it helps to take a flashlight and shine down into the windows to help see.

Also check for 12V on the stud right beside the main fuse. Its in the red circle in the photo. Do you have 12V+ power here?

I just have to say THANK YOU THANK YOU! It was a chore but I got the fuse box apart and got the main fuse out. Found one at a Toyota Dealer and prayed the dang thing would work putting it in. IT WORKED! I swear I heard angels singing lol. My husband kept telling me to take it to a mechanic and I was too invested at this point. I was fixing the damn thing myself. Thank you both so much for all the help!!!! @Jeff_5_7 and @blackdemon_tt

For reference hooking up jumper cables in the wrong direction is a quick way to burn that fuse up. 90% of the ones that need to be replaced are for this reason.

Glad to hear it’s all working now.

I think that’s what happened. I felt like when they took the cables off to “reset” it…that’s what happened.
