    First time poster, longtime reader.

I've owned many Toyotas in my lifetime, 2x 4runners, Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Sequoia and 2x Tundras. I guess I'm sold on the product. On my 2007 Sequoia 270K Limited 4x4, the sunroof opened and then wouldn't close. I've taken the overhead console apart, inspected the sunroof buttons circuit board for visible defects(none noted), removed the motor, used an eraser and a dremel brush to clean up the armature where the brushes ride, continuity checked the toyota electrical connections with no faults noted and wasn't able to find a probable reason for this fault. The motor operated when I tested it before reinstalling it, but it seems to be for the tilt and close function, not the sunroof opening function. Neither one on the sunroof close buttons worked when pressing them. I inspected all the fuses and they are all good to rule that out. After watching a youtube video, I removed the motor and manually closed the sunroof by hand. It's closed but not secure like when it normally closes. I can push up on the glass and it still moves some which gives me concern it might leak. I decided to bite the bullet after reading about other poster's experiences and purchased a used toyota sunroof motor and a used overhead console since one of my garage door buttons was totally broke. My question is, when I install the used motor, do I need to worry about clocking the sunroof glass to match the motor gear position? Is there a way to know where the motor was turned off at? I'm assuming the sunroof was closed when it was removed, but maybe not. Any suggestions? And will I have to do the reset procedure after installing the new motor? Thanks for any insight you might have.

Big mods are coming soon, but not too soon.
I recall seeing a post about installing a new motor. I can't recall if it was on here of a FB sequoia or tundra group. If I find it, I'll post it here for you.

Ok I received the replacement overhead console and it confirmed the open/close and tilt buttons in the original console were not working properly. I think the circuit board beneath the buttons was to blame. I connected the replacement console and tested the original sunroof motor while it was not bolted to the sunroof and the motor worked but the electric motor is weak. My replacement motor arrives in the next couple of days and I’ll post my results once I install it.

Does anyone have any info about what position the sunroof needs to be in when installing the sunroof motor? Does it matter? I would think the cutout switches would turn the motor off when it’s fully opened or closed. Just a guess.

The replacement motor was installed today. I found out that even with the sunroof glass not completely closed, the motor will will "clock" itself after 1 opening and closing sequence. After wiping out the accumulated dirt and lubing the tracks, the sunroof operates as good as new. Nice and smooth. This was an easy fix and much cheaper than going to the dealer.
