Hey guys. Moving from 4.7 to 5.7 for space for the family. Just drove a private sale 07 with 150k. Drives and runs like a top for the hour I had it. Kinda need some input on walk away or take it home.
PROS: 2019 new: frame replacement recall including gas tank, UCAs, ball joints, rear shocks, diff vent, quick struts. Exhaust and other cosmetics done.
BAD: Bed will need to be removed to cut and weld in some new pieces from rot at cross member sites (3). Some minor paint chips and couple dents with minimal surface rust. Does have some seeping oil on passenger side as will be seen in pic.
I showed him the seep and discussed the bed work. 13k is lowest he will take, otherwise guy at his shop will be taking it for 15k. Would you be willing to jump into this for 13k? Wife not willing to get anything out of state due to travel and the market in Maine is absurd. My 1st gen has 316k currently and runs great.

Not sure what engine displacement has to do with passenger volume... but I would rather buy one that has NOT had a frame replacement and just never rusted out to begin with. Having the dealer tear an entire vehicle apart and put it back together is in no way comparable to the quality you get from one that rolled out of a Toyota factory.

Sounds like you are somewhere in the East where rust is a thing. Maybe look out in the Southwest for a truly clean one and plan a road trip. Probably less labor hours driving than fixing bed rot.

Agreed if you already have a 1st Gen DC then you are not really getting much more or any more space in the crew cab. I had both.

Now if you are getting the 2nd gen CM for the towing power then okay that is a different reason.

As for buying for that price. I know u are in Maine. But I would just get a southern truck. Below Tennessee to down south. You can get one for that price if you look around. That way you get no rust.

I have bought 3 trucks remotely but asking the seller some pointed questions. Asked for lots of pictures. And made my decision. Then either driver since I am in the south or took a flight to the location.

It’s an access cab so significant room gain with the double as we learned today

I call BS on the "guy in the shop will take it for $15k."

So he'll sell it to you for a $2k loss?

    Why?

lol ok. Not really a 2k loss, just the way we came across each other and the discussion about it. Trucks not posted for sale anywhere yet.
