    Hi All:

I am new here and I am looking for help with my 2004 Toyota Tundra. The rear support needs welding and is causing an issue with the break line. It is my understanding that there was a recall on the rear end and has expired. What should my next steps be?

Have the frame inspected for overall road worthiness, no sense throwing money at an unsolvable problem. If it's determined that there are only a few areas that need attention (difficult to believe based on that photo), then major rust remediation needs to occur first. Heavy wire wheel and / or needle descaling needs to take place prior to trying to weld back together or weld in reinforcement plates. Then the whole thing needs to be treated to prevent further corrosion. This can likely be bandaided for short term continued use, but it's also likely the corrosion is too far advanced to save it long term. Some owners have still been able to get frame replacements under a recall from Toyota, but those reports are dwindling as the campaign has ended. More pics of the frame in various locations may help to assess how bad it is overall.

Welcome from OKC! If the rest of the truck is great, maybe a frame swap from salvage would be something to consider. Might be able to get lucky and find one of those replacement frames from the recall.

Thank you. We are looking at all angles. The truck still runs good and not looking to get rid of it soon. Hoping we can resolve the issue.

If you do in fact get a decent frame, something like Woolwax or Fluid Film will be a good investment to protect it from rust.
