Hello everyone, I am very new to the tundra community and this is my first post on the forum! I recently bought a 2003 Tundra SR5 2wd with 170k miles on it and the other day I got a P0741 torque converter clutch solenoid stuck off code on my $20 walmart scan tool. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the way it shifts or drives. Doesn't ride high rpms, no slipping or rough shifts at all, shifts to all gears, and sounds amazing. Still, I took it to AAMCO at 8am friday morning to have it checked out, and still hadn't heard anything at 5pm today(monday) so I called them, and the guy said that the tranny is gonna go out but they don't know when, "could be over a year from now, or sooner." He said that he would have to drop the pan and check some plates and valves and other things which would be expensive and might not even work. When I asked if the fluid is dirty and if they could flush it, they said that they don't do flushes unless there is a drain plug, and that he didn't check to see if there was a drain plug while it was in the air, and that he can check again tomorrow. I'm no mechanic, but it sounds like he is just money fishing, as i'm a 19 year old college student who may look naive. Please someone let me know if this is normal, or if I should sell it before it gets too bad. Any responses are helpful!!!!

Welcome and nice ride for a young man.
Is this your daily ride and do you wish to keep it awhile ? Don't know much about torque converters or this issue but I'll give that mechanic one thing he got right...."the tranny is gonna go out" as many major items will. Hopefully someone in the BNA area will drop by for a 2nd opinion mechanic recommendation.
