I just bought a 2001 Tundra 2wd and need to do some towing. Purchased a new hitch, added the wiring for the 7 pin in the back using an after market kit that plugs into the factory plug, but I cannot find a kit that plugs into factory wiring for the brake controller. It seems to start at 2002 and I haven't been able to find any instructional videos showing how to hook up the 2001. It sure would be nice to just plug and play instead of jumping into existing wires. Any ideas? Was there no factory wiring for trailer brake controllers in 2001? Please help!

    Respectfully,

    Dan

As far as I know, there is not a plug, and play harness for the 2002, and older trucks. You'll have to splice. Make sure you use posi-taps, or one of our members here will getcha!
Scotch-locks fail, and cause issues. Even on the inside of the vehicle.

Here's a link for you to read on the posi-taps.

My 01 has a trailer brake controller in it. Unsure of how it is wired but it doesn't seem to do anything and I've never had a use for it. Just let it sit there in case I ever have a reason to need it hooked up. My 7 pin connector works though. 4 pin doesn't. Just use a 7pin to 4 pin on mine.

Yep, no plug n play unfortunately. I installed one 22 years ago in my 2001, along with a battery isolater (sp?). Still all good and I think I used scotch locks on the brake switch wire.:( I bet an RV service bay would probably wire one up for you if you don't have the time to do it yourself.

I had to wire mine in, I got the controller from ETrailer , they were helpful. I also used the harness linked above.
