I found a reasonably priced ($500 for the set) reasonable condition set of leather seats out of a 2016 at a local junkyard. I am wanting to swap them into my 2007 as my old leather is cracked and beyond repair.

I am really hoping I can make this work. The condition of the seats in my truck right now is the one thing that makes me want to upgrade to a newer model. If I can fix it for $500 rather than $40,000 that'd be a big savings.

I have a few questions that I am hoping someone here can answer here before I spend the coin.

    1. The truck the donor seats are coming from are coming from a wrecked truck. Some of the airbags have deployed (steering wheel, knee bag, curtain bags on both sides) but not the in-seat bags. Is it reasonable to assume the in-seat bags are still good?

    2. Wiring the seats. From some quick wiring diagram research, it looks like the seats have all the same wires, but some different style connectors. I am okay with salvaging the old connectors and from the old seats to make the plugs fit, but can anyone think of a compatibility issue between the electronics in the seat? As far as I know, the main components will be the electric adjustments, the airbag, the occupancy sensor, and the seat belt sensors (and maybe a seat heater)

I wanted to do this on my 08 but from my understanding it won’t work.

Driver side power plugs right up but the airbag connectors are completely different. Also if you have a no powered passenger seat how would you get power to it?
Slime one should make a jumper harness, I’d buy one.

Side note;I know physically the door panels will fit from. 2.5 to a 2nd gen but I don’t know if the window switches will work.

    I appreciate the input.

    1. I figured I would have to cut/splice the correct connector for the airbags if the connectors were not the same from year to year. The actual circuit for the airbags is very simple, just a positive and negative wire. I can'timage that they connector design is critical.

    2. Good point on the power passenger seat. I suppose for some reason I assumed the passenger seat in the donor truck was manual as well, but I can't confirm. Worse case I'd have to tap into power/ground to power the motors.

If you grab the seats, grab the airbag and seat harnesses on the truck side too. In case you need the connectors for repinning.

Don’t cut and splice the airbag connectors! If the plugs are different but same number of wires, use the donor trucks plug and repin with your trucks wires.

I think I'd rather get new covers, or even find good condition replacement seats from a 2nd gen.
The 2nd gen seats are orders of magnitude more comfortable than the 2.5 gen seats.
If it was a direct swap and I could find pristine 2nd gen front seats, I'd buy them and swap them into my 2.5 gen in a heartbeat.

Oh wow, this is something I will have to consider. I was of the mindset that new=better but maybe some nice seat covers would be the way to go. Certainly easier too.

$500 will put Katskins on your front seats or maybe Clazzios in your whole truck

Yeah, if the foam is still holding up, I'd go with a high end re-cover.

Can’t find used 2nd gen leather seats anywhere, most are torn to pieces.

Katskinz are now creating up to 975 last I loooes for a crew max. Add another 250 for drivers lower foam plus install.

Never cut plugs, in another thread the single cab guy said the number of wires was different regarding the airbag harness. Meaning it has more or less wires than his 07 single cab sr5.

It’s a real pickle for us 2nd gen guys with old worn out seats.

The airbag connections are both are just two wire yellow plugs but they are different styles. Some guys have reported mismatched wiring colors on the seat side.

My airbags in my seats were blown so I had my 07 airbags installed in the newer seat making them plug and play.

    Seat belts changed also.

Clazzios for just the front seats will be delivered tomorrow. I had to call them to get a custom package for only the two front bucket seats. Great support, easy to work with. They cut me a pretty good deal because I didn't need the middle seat covers or the rear seats.

Will update when they are installed.

I got the covers installed today. THey look great and fit excellent. The only small issue I ran into is the driver's bottom is a bit looser than it should be because the foam has degraded so much on the seat itself. The cover is designed for a new cushion, not one that has been broken down over 15 years. Its hard to see in the picture but the loose area is on the door side of the drivers seat where people tend to slide in and out.

Pictures are of the old wet okole covers (did not last 2 years), the factor leather that was underneath, and the new clazzio covers.
