So my tundra started steering strangely, so I crawled under to inspect and found that the mount for the steering rack has busted from the crossmember due to rust. Ohio got the best of it and now I need to fix. I can find the outside part bracket easy enough, but I was told that the part that is welded to the crossmember cannot be purchased because Toyota doesn't sell them because they have to be welded to their specs. Has anyone had this issue? Have one made? Any direction would be appreciated.

Salvage yard would be your best bet I would imagine. Welding a new makeshift bracket after descaling all that rust and cleaning it up would be your next best bet.

Damn, that's a lot of rust.

I'd start by finding a welder. You may not find anyone willing to attempt this job due to the extent of rust. I'm not trying to piss you off-- just think you ought not go to hassle and money to find a replacement part, unless/until you know a repair is possible.

Yes. It is a disappointing amount of rust. Salvage yard is what I was thinking I would have to do. Hopfully I can find one that doesn't have this much rust. Thanks

If you can find the exact part number from the dealer, you might get lucky on eBay to save you the time of having to pull it yourself or have the salvage yard do it. I'm not sure of the cost savings though.

I was kind of worried about the rust on my bracket so I threw some primer on there after changing the bushings.

But that, that looks rough yo, unfortunately..
That rack looks like it may have some serious risk of leaking, I wouldn't just worry about the bracket..

What did you end up doing for the bracket? I'm finding myself in the same position after replacing most all of the front end and taking to get alignment done and then saying they can't because the steering rack is trying to come off of the frame.

    Couple of tips:

When replying on old threads, so people know who you're asking, and specifically what you're asking about, click on the "QUOTE" link in the bottom-right of the post you're asking about. The default forum setup is to notify that user by email when you reply to their post.

But before you reply to someone, click on their username, under their picture. It'll tell you, most of the time, whether that person is still around. Which in this case, it looks like Cory may've been yet another fly-by-night'er, only here for a free suggested solution to their problem, with zero interest in participating. Which is true for, like, 90% of the people who come here, and make their very first post a "Oh fuck, I need help!" type of thing....

Haha alright I get it, I am a rookie posting on forums. Been creepin on this site from google searches for a while and figured it was time to join up. Thank you for the insight and mercy for not completely roasting me to a crisp.
