IMG_2471.jpg Hey y’all, so I’m new to a 2001 tundra 4.7 limited. I was on the freeway this weekend testing a different set of wheels to eliminate some vibration. Anyhow, as I was testing, it felt like I hit a series of gusts of wind head on. The thing just quit on me at 95-97 MPH at around 3200 rpm. So I’ve been researching and it sounds like a speed limiter? But everyone says it should be 105 or 110. Is there a way to disable the speed limiter?
    Thanks

You shouldn't have one that limits it below 110 mph as I know I've been able to do that on the interstate at 3 am and mine's an 02.

Looks like bigger than stock tires. Check the speed rating on them because they might not even be rated for 110mph. With bigger than stock tires and no other adjustments, you'll hit the govenor sooner. Your speedo is likely off as well, so I would check how fast you're going with a GPS app.

It’s wild because I’ve hit 105 in my little Tacoma and this tundra has a lot more to go but is restricted. Anyone figure

So you're an inch taller than stock tires. There's your reason your speedo is off by 3.3% and why the governor is kicking on in a way perceived as early.

My 03 is on stock tires, but I regeared the rear diff from 3.91 to 4.10, so my governor also comes on when the speedo reads like 95 or 100.

I don't think the computer knows your tire size has changed. You should be able to go above limited speed with larger tires. That said, I highly suggest staying within the rating of the tires, so adjust accordingly.

Wouldn’t larger tires make the limiter kick on later?

Is there anyway to remove the speed limiter in these things?

You usually need an ECU tuner for that and even if you did, you’d want to make sure you’re running the correct speed rated tires at a minimum.

Unfortunately, I don't believe the VF Tuner is able to tune 00-02 ECUs yet. But maybe they updated it recently.
I know I had a time trying to get my 03 tuned, because my particular calibration ID wasn't supported yet.
