    I don't even bother with a platform.
Softopper and futon mattress works for me.

This. The voice of reason. We all want to be skeptical. I wish sometimes we could get rid of social media, but pandora's box is wide open at this point.

I often felt safer on the motorcycle than bicycle. Granted some higher speeds but you tend to be extra alert once the wind pushes you. With my aerostich high vis suit and a quality helmet I felt like I’d manage a slide ok. Just the impact to worry about and at low speed hopefully not too bad.

meanwhile on a bicycle, one hit and you’re rashed up for weeks. And I went down plenty on my own, only tapped 2 or 3 times and the worst one I managed to land on my feet. Destroyed a wheel but otherwise pretty lucky.

once kids are older and term life ends, I’ll get another street bike. That’s for sure.

Naw, I've been busy with work and scooter butt. We were without power foe literally .75 of a second. Just long enough of a blink to fuck up the clocks

I used to have bigger bikes, but I never ride any significant distances any more so I got a 2008 Honda CBR125R. It’s not fast, but was cheap to buy and is fun to ride, it’s like a toy. I did a bunch of random bolt on mods for fun and to personalize it.
It’s just a blast for local trips, uses next to no gas and I’m not very financially invested really; of course I already had the riding gear.
If you’re not too picky about gear I’m sure you can find good deals secondhand on jackets and helmets (gloves are cheap enough), just scrutinize the helmet for any damage and it’ll be fine.

No doubt it’s a sweet bit of artwork that involves a large amount of time and materials to manufacture, but adding and additional $$$ for the three-

puts a sower taste in my mouth.

You’re much safer riding a motorcycle on the highway or freeway than inner city! Reason being is that we’re more difficult to see around town. Also red light runners, stop sign runners, rear ends, sideswipes, T bones, ect. I’m fairly involved in Portland’s moto community, and very, very rarely do any of the riders around here have a collision on the highway. Pretty much all (i’m going out in a limb here and guess 95+%) of them happen in the city. Even a slow 25mph collision into an immovable object will put you bare minimum in the hospital for a while. The trick is to ride with your head always on a swivel, expecting other drivers to purposefully be trying to kill you…even if they see and acknowledge you (which i have experienced multiple times). That and be ready in a split second to jump straight up in the air when a car or truck is coming at you (easier said than done).

Look for high quality, lightly used riding gear on craigslist or faceplace. I wouldn’t buy anything from Cycle Gear. A two piece leather suit will allow you to keep your skin if you crash all by yourself and no other vehicles around, but all that safety gear can only protect you so much from an oncoming car (or lamp post or curb).

Keeping my head on a swivel has saved my ass countless times on a bicycle. I used to commute to school and work on my road bike- I'd do nearly 200 miles a week, the entire time repeating to myself that I was invisible and should act as if nobody saw me. One of the times I was hit by a car, the driver saw me, waved me on, and then didn't wait for me to finish crossing the intersection before accelerating. Unbelievable.

Not the same as riding a motorcycle on the street, I'm sure. But similar practice/skill that I'm lucky to have.

I’m guessing they copy-pasted a social media post full of keywords and FAQ into a speech program and sent it.

Driving in downtown houston i'm appalled at how many drivers are distracted. Dunno if i could carry enough 3/8" ball bearings for all of em. I'd need a fanny pack.

If that $800 topper tent I posted above was too cheap for ya here's one for a wee bit more money, $3,000. This one apparently includes the rack. Located in New Tripoli, PA. 460934833_1243667746778630_8130186843337_8c31dc72970f3cc5ebf17bb8e308dc8f57ed7bda.jpg

And aggressive. Within 2 miles on Wednesday, I had one woman intentionally try to run me out of my lane because she decided last-minute "Oh fuck, I'm in a turn-only lane!" and began merging into me, as if I was supposed to stop or something, but I had nowhere to go and the guy behind me was up my ass trying to prevent her from merging...had I tapped on my brakes, he'd have hit me. She was basically driving in the oncoming traffic lane laying on her horn shaking her fist at me, and stopped to merge in several cars back. Didn't even make it a mile up the road and I change lanes rolling up to a red line and some dude in a late 90s Silverado barrels up in my ass, and I see him slamming his hand into his steering wheel - like, I did nothing, I switched lanes while he was a block or more away. Dude rapidly turned to follow me at the light, the last 3 blocks to where I was doing, and made a point of pulling up next to me (was in the Highlander) screaming at me thru his window. I was reaching for the center console just in case, holding one hand up, like, "chill, bro" and before I could roll the window down, dude sped off. I saw him again about an hour later after I finished up the side job I was working on.

People are driving like f'n idiots lately.

I was prepared to reply to the other and say, "Damn that's spendy!" but I know how much those damn things normally cost. This $3k one is really damn cool, I'm curious how well it holds up on that one side, especially on non-flat ground. But yeah, $3k is what I was originally looking to spend on a car for the youngun's. Given how little I'd use a tent compared to a car, I could justify $600-900, but $3k .... whoo boy, that's a lotta coin.

Gonna have to get tires pretty much right away for the truck. Thinking I might go with Falken Wildpeaks like I have on my 3rd Gen unless the Cooper ST Maxx are significantly cheaper.

I looked at those, but I can't get them locally. No MT dealers here.

ST Maxx is what I have now. They're good tires. I want something a little less agressive this time around I think, but they're on the shortlist.

I got this for my parents for their 2/2.5 gen which sees a lot less use now they got the '23 rolla. They haven't complained. They toss it on the dash, and even with it under their steel parking canopy, with the truck facing north/south away from the sun most of the day, the truck stays topped off. No complaints and I gave it to them Crimmas of 2022.
