I think I got about the coolest gift I've ever received today while handing off a load of technology stuff to @oddhours today. Dude made me a freaking fitted hat (that fits perfect) embroidered with my forum avatar!

@ToyoMafia if you don't already have someone making embroidered schwag caps and other stuff for you, you need to talk to this guy. I used to collect embroidered vintage bike patches. The quality of his work is stellar compared to a lot I've seen and bought. The color looks more washed out in my pics, probably because of the cutting board messing with color balance of my phone camera. It's much more vibrant in person.

Thanks again, Barry! You're awesome bro.

Just got these pedals and seat and swapped rear tire recently. Don't do long distance but hill climbs instead.

I own a Trek Marlin 5- pretty much the exact same thing as your bike. I've done a bunch of really little mods that really make it a fun ride. You're going to love the hydraulic brakes. So much control and power even bone stock.
    IMG_9099.jpg

Echoing what others have said: grips, seat, pedals. For sure. Will make the riding experience 5x better.

Been considering if the wisdom is to keep using my trusty 6 ton MVP Superlifts (T-6906WM) since they've been reliable for like 20 years now, or if older means they're fatigued and should be replaced.

Have seen the Big Red at HD for $63 that know get good reviews but also these Prolift for $45 that look good and stout - similar if not virtually the same (in a different color) with the locking pins.

Looked hard at a Gen 3 Marlin and a Rockhopper Sport. All very similar. Liked the Giant shop the best and wife found a bike she wanted there too, so made a package deal. I’ve got new grips, pedals and a seat already on order. Should be here when I get back from my trip. Along with some other questionable purchase decisions…. More to come.

Marketplace wrecked door lowballed to $50.

New badge for the tailgate and no more missing trim.

I absolutely will not use any jack stand that doesn’t have a secondary lock on it like what’s in your pic. I want something I can wedge in to prevent unexpected drop.

Been working in my garage all day. About 20 minutes ago I hear what sounds like firecrackers. I walk out my driveway and see a motorcycle rider in the neighbors yard. His bike under their tree. I walk over and ask if he's ok. He's bleeding from the leg. 99% sure he's drunk and also pretty sure he's who came by earlier hauling ass. Fuck em. He left the scene.

Fraudulent sale, then. Let the buyer know you want your money back, the odometer was reset. Read this for more info: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle-safety/odometer-fraud

For Texas, this may help, apparently odometer fraud in TX is on the rise? https://www.allenstewart.com/odometer-fraud-is-on-the-rise-in-texas-latest-incidents-and-remedies/

    This may also help: https://www.txdmv.gov/sites/default/files/body-files/SmartBuyer_OdometerFraud_July2017.pdf

Unless there’s a legitimate way to have it set to the actual miles, I’d look into returning it and threatening to press charges if not. You don’t want to be blamed for odometer fraud when you sell it to the next buyer.

Now, if there was a legitimate way to reset the mileage to what it was originally, I’d have them bring the price down and do a partial refund. Hard to say how it’ll go if they weren’t the original owners when it was turned back.

A lower mile instrument cluster might have been swapped in place of the original?

unfortunately there is no way to contact the guy. He used a fake name and phone number. He also bought the car from an older lady, never titled or registered it in his name. He was just driving it around and flipped it. Must have rolled the miles back right after he bought it and flipped it. What an asshole. The lady on the title he said was his wife.

You mean a 2nd pin like the Prolift has? Interesting PF tested some large amount of force was need to pull the handle once loaded for drop to occur. IIRC the concern of drop came from the recalled units with riser bar indents being too shallow. But a 2nd pin sure seems a great thing to have. Only thing better seems to be a through pin in the middle of the riser bar.

110 degrees at home so I decided to make the trip up to IDY. 70 degrees currently. Got to go for a dip until it started to downpour.

Yikes. I’d never buy a car without the owner’s name on the title and if they lost it I’d tell them to get a replacement one. You never know what sort of issues you could run into that way.

That sucks, but it sounds like you didn't over pay. So it went from a deal to a normal sale price. I just hope it has a clean title... 4wd or 2wd?

title is clean and it wasn’t stolen I called the police and asked them. I think it was just the guy bought it and flipped it without putting his name on the title. He had the story about that it was him on the title and he’d had it for 10 yrs. Just a bad situation
