Hot damn, who knew it’s be such a pain in the ass to find wiring diagrams for a 2008 CR-V? Need to figure out how the dash tweeters are wired, i.e. where they splice off the front doors. No dice. I think I can figure most of the other shit out. Need to go find an FSM while I’m at it, I guess….

If you know where I can get a free repair manual online for a 2008 Impala, let me know. I may have to change out a water pump on my mother’s car.

I like this but I'd much rather have a GX if I'm going to spend that much.

GX are nice but never came optioned with a locker for some reason. But the fourth gen 4runner could be had with rear e-locker and 2uz. That would be my choice.

Was the locker only later in the builds? Like the 2009 trail edition or thru out the generation?

I'm not certain which trim the elocker was on TBH, since they didn't follow the same trim levels as Tacomas and Tundras.
Tacos were simple. TRD Off-road always had a locker.

Those are usually paid subscriptions. I’m not sure how good they are, btw. I thought Chevy would have something like Toyota’s TIS site, but no.

All GX470's have a center diff lock. That doesn't count?

No. Center diff just makes it go from AWD to a normal 4wd. So think 4wd without front or rear lockers. Surely the rear has an LSD at least. But I'm not certain.

Downside to the GX and v8 4th gen is that weak rear diff. Solution is buy another FGT to fit the bill haha

Man if you're planning on going all out on this thing, make a "build thread" in the other vehicles section and you can keep up with things better probably.

Nah, not going that all-out. Just dealing with the major stuff first: Fix the windshield, get a hands-free head unit in, replace all the door lock actuators, and while I've got the door cards off, I'll update the speakers and sound deaden the doors. But updating speakers meant I needed to understand how the tweets were wired, because the EX and EX-L models (this one is LX) had dash tweets which I 100% intended to repurpose. I plan to hit the JY today to look at two 1st gens they recently got, and look at their EX-L CR-V, hope the tweeters are there, grab them if so, and look at wiring.

Anyway, in that manual I found the wiring diagram I needed, showing how Honda wires the dash tweeter. It's apparently running in parallel, which surprised me, but ... I had a pair of $70 Rockford 6.5" triax mids (R165X3) hanging in the shop I got from the Marketplace on here for like $30 shipped from @TRDFerguson a while back, and figured, "ah, fuck it, those'll fit, let's go all RF mids and highs for a change!" so I hit Crutchfield, got the Jensen wireless carplay receiver that looks OEM+ (hope I don't regret that, knowing Alpine was only $50 more!), and bout some matching RF "Prime" 6.75" components, which have the crossover built into the midwoofer. Essentially, the tweeter gets plugged directly onto the terminal of the woofer, so no external crossover. I'll just need to install tweet in the dash, then route its wires thru the door grommet and over to the woofer and I'm set.

But still, I'd love to know - since I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet - where Honda is bridging out to the tweeter for the EX and EX-L. I suspect there's probably a tee behind the glovebox and gauge cluster (respectively) where the tweeter breaks-out of the main harness. Maybe I'll know more soon enough. I looked up the tweeter online, and it's showing asa a 4ohm driver too, which is weird, because if the woofer in door is also 4ohm it'd be presenting 2 ohm load to the head unit. This is all the wiring diagram for the CR-V LX (non-amplified) model shows:

ew... I don't think there's been an item from them that I haven't had regrets on purchasing, granted that was in the late 90s/early 2000s. Perhaps their quality has improved...

I've heard some pretty slamming systems with their stuff, before the days of double-DIN-everything. I know it's not the same company anymore, but it's still better than DUAL or Boss.

But ultimately it came down to something stupid-simple:
    • Wireless Carplay
    • Volume knob
They were the only name-brand receiver I could find on the market that checked off those two boxes for less than $600. And at $250, assuming you didn't buy the scAmazon-only version for $179 or $199 or whatever, it fit the budget. The fact it's double DIN and has subwoofer outs allows me to run a powered spare-tire sub in the trunk with minimal wiring, and call it a day.

EDIT: This car is ultimately for the kids, not me, so I'm not going Bonanza on install. Budget everything. HU was $250. Front RF components $49 (and that includes all adapters/brackets). Not bad.

So I was poking around just now and I'm pretty sure the Dual and Jensen are the same. My daughter has the dual in her truck, so I was looking for a similar one for my truck and the Vic.
