How many trucks have you built to get the breadth and tidbits of knowledge across the years and models ... like this detail?

It was $50 for the day. 16 runs. I’m happy with that

Cheaper if I had a Miata or was part of their club. But not bad

It was $50 at san antonio speedway, And houston raceway park. But we never got 16 runs. Way cheaper than MSR. That looked mo betta than a parking lot full of cones.

I have that grille I picked up recently, and did a deep-dive after I had it in-hand to figure out the history. Part of that was looking up why some versions have 2" legs, and others have 1" legs, and a good side-by-side to show that leg-height difference is here.

I think a lot of that info I dug up got posted in a group PM chain here on the forum. Long and short of it, IIRC, FMS (Foam Molders & Specialties) manufactured these for Toyota on contract. FMS makes a lot of aftermarket plastics/mouldigs for OEMs, not just Toyota, and some for aftermarket sale. I wasn't able to figure out whether or not Toyota specifically had FMS automotive knock these out initially for Waltrip models as a bit of a signature (similar to what they did with the Ivan Stewart grilles), but I did find where this Waltrip-specific grille was offered were offered as an option in parts catalogs while the truck was actively in-prod.

Yeah I've done deep dive research to finger things out too for best solutions on a variety of things like the CV hose clamp wormhole I think we both went through!

Recall now your grille work previously.

Glad for this forum of collective knowledge and experience.

@shifty` saw you painted that grille but didn't see if you ever decided to install it or sell it? How's it look?

This setup killed it. We were in and out in under two hours and we even came home with some sweet sweet LSD action.

Hey man, I for one am super stoked you’re here (/nohomo). I know you’ve got a breadth of experience to share, and there’s no such thing as “too much” of that. The golden age of any forum is when you can have friendly discussion from a wide variety of people that come with collective experience to share, it can’t be beat. To that point, part of the reason we decided to build the Megathread is just that: One-stop shop to avoid reinventing the wheel (/research), and I should probably dump more clamp info in there. May save the next guy some digging.

It sounds like you’ve had way more projects than me overall in the Toyota world, I’m still relatively new to the brand, if you consider the decades I spent in the GM world prior to my 1st Toyota. Your input is one I’ve enjoyed a lot lately, it’s refreshing to see. Look forward to you sticking around!

Still working on it. Got the holes filled (hur hur) before dragging the kids overseas to kick off summer break so it had ample time to harden, got them flush, but I still need to scuff sand, skim on some filler in a couple spots, prime, and shoot. I just haven’t had time. I’m making a point of spending several hours a day with the kids and probably won’t get back to working on the truck until they’re back in school. But you never know, maybe I’ll get it done sooner. Right now I’ve got the in-laws visiting, and my parents are coming for a week soon, so im pretty damn stagnant.

Just boarded a plane bound for England. A week of meetings outside of London, Newcastle and Leeds. Won’t see much of London as the venue is an hour west and we’re staying on site. Oh well, I’ll get to see the English country side and find a little pub to watch some futbol.
