I'm assuming you had to find another 2000 2uz 4wd to get the ECU from. Is that correct? Or do you think the year doesn't matter?
It's possible theres a separate ECU for the 4wd, but I don't know.

Pop your glovebox and slide out the ECU from your truck to jot down the part number.

Not when discussing the p0420 issue so many have. Seems like a glaring thing to leave out of the discussion.

If you're getting p0420 with p0430, it's pretty much down to an exhaust leak or the cats.
Easy to pop the hood and read the stickers about emissions compliance to get more perspective.

Enterprise went backwards this week. Chevy Equinox. Gross. I feel like a peasant after the BMW.

One of my SHOs was from Cali. It had a different intake that added EGR, and a different ECU. And this was a 91. I would've had to change the ECU and intake to get rid of that shit.

Do you know if ABS has its own module or uses the main ECU?

Wish we had a law like that but for people who drive by in their ricers with a god awful subwoofer that shakes their whole car. You know those systems are loud when they shake your living room floor from 3 blocks away.

Ok so I just peaked under my 4x4 hood and it also says federal emissions and California emissions, but it has the same cheap muffler shop cats and no CEL. Hmmm.

Yeah! Who would do such a thing? :anonymous:

You know, it does have a volume knob. I don't turn it up in town very much, and turn it all the way down at lights. Also also, I usually listen to rock/metal/screamo. And if I have people with me I keep it at a talking volume.

Lol I was going to let my daughter pick our rental until we walked up and she pointed out one of those.

    We're driving a 24 Highlander.

It's such a piece of shit... It reminded me every 10 minutes the washer fluid was low. I could dismiss the warning and it came right back. Never thought I'd miss the Altima...

Mine originally wasn’t worthy of the state I drive mine (bought new in NH) but it still passes emissions so long as you don’t tailpipe test it (when it’s new).

Those stickers may not mean anything since in my state, a used vehicle which is defined as having 7500 miles or greater on the odometer, has lower standards. I’m not sure if Cali lowers standards on used vehicles or not.

The one Noah has is 89661-0C161 for 4x4, so probably not a good fit for yours with 89661-0C432 for 4x2.

People don't mention the CA smog ECU but have seen mentioned on here several times about CAT compatibility with CA, and to stick with a cat that's CA-compliant if you don't want to throw codes. "Avoid aftermarket, except XYZ brand" a lot also (Summit, Walker, Magnaflow).

I'm well aware of the CA-compliant cats... I think my CA Magnaflow is shitting the bed after 6 years, and I'm due for smog. The bolt-in CA compliant I bought for $400ish in 2018 is $1200 now. The weld in one is $582 though.
