I have an 06 double cab, 4.7 that keeps popping the ig/ ecu 10 amp fuse. Anyone have this issue? I’m pulling my hair out trying to track down the issue. It will run and not pop until I start driving - cant get 2 blocks away before blowing the fuse.

No, do you think a bulb could be the culprit? I do have a brakelight out.

Found this in another post. But hope it helps

ECU- IG 10amp fuse is Related to the following:

    Charging system
    stop lights
    anti- lock brake system
    vehicle stability control system
    traction control system
    electric moon roof
driver and front passenger door lock system
    gauges and meters
    multi- information display
    power outlets
    multiplex communication system
    tire pressure warning system
auto anti- glare inside rear view mirror

Start by recalling any work done to the truck and verify any electrical related (example. after a tail light replacement re-verify the wiring is not pinch into the chassis, or a receiver hitch with the wiring harness pinch and grounded into bare metal) And start with the basics before assuming a computer device is the culptcrip

Thanks - I read this about 5 times , I did a visual inspection of everything and didn’t find a problem so I thought I’d see if anyone else had this happen to their truck.

When is the fuse blowing? When replaced? When the key is turned on?

No - it will run parked and not blow the fuse. I can put it in gear and use the brakes and it will not blow the fuse. It blows when the truck moves , and not immediately but not long after.

    Damn that’s an interesting one.
ABS circuit is on IGN. Wheel speed/ABS sensors would be reading when rolling. Maybe it’s coming from ABS system? I’m trying to think of anything else that’s be doing stuff while rolling from @jerryallday’s list above. VSC/trac ctrl is the only other thing I can put in that list. Do you have a VSC button in the dash, near the clock? Is this truck 2WD or 4WD?

2 wheel drive, I disconnected the abs control module and it still blew.

I have it stuck in my head (but I’m stuck on a plane for a couple hours and can’t easily check), but I feel like VSC has an anti-tilt module or something to that effect, maybe under the center console? Maybe it’s shorting?

have you ever seen the auto-VSC button kick on in the gauge cluster when gassing it on wet roads?

I’m guessing it’s more so a wire making contact with ground when the truck moves. Maybe worn through insulation on a wire?

I watched several YouTube videos. I’ve seen wires corroded and grounding out in the videos then crawled under my truck to see perfect, clean wiring with no breaks. I haven’t found it yet anyway. I question that a bad speed sensor would cause the fuse to pop? Seems like it just wouldn’t work correctly.

i am thinking in the grand scheme of things, and what’s on the circuit. If I’m the problem doesn’t start the vehicle starts moving, I’m going to things that are active (or activated) when moving. That’s solely where my spitball was going.

but it may just be that a movement the car is making is rubbing through a wire casing, for example. I.E. a wire that’s going thru the chassis isn’t grommeted correftly, like maybe for a brake controller, and it’s tapping off a power feed for something on said circuit.

I thought that is the abs controller is unhooked then that would eliminate anything from the abs as being the culprit. I read that the vehicle could operate without so I unplugged the control module and no change. Fuse still blew when I drove a block from the house after running for 10 minutes in the driveway.

Fuel pump switching from high to low pressure?

O2 sensor kicking on? This happened to me on my 93 toyota....ECU fuse would blow intermittently, turned out to be a o2 sensor wire that had melted on the exhaust pipe.

Have you had any work on stereo in truck.some times they tap wrong wires and you get overloaded and blows fuse.

Any codes stored at all? That's about the next-best thing that may give some direction.

Take the brake light bulb from the other side that is good. If the bulb you know is good does not work on the side that is out, it's likely something in that circuit causing all of this.

Do you have anything tapped into the wiring on the brake lights/ tail lights, such as a camper shell?

What ever happened with this. I slammed on my breaks the other day and abs assisted my stop then abs light came on, lost power to windows, check engine light for speed sensor. Same ecu-ig fuse keeps blowing not immediately but randomly could be shortly after replacing fuse or several miles later

Not sure about your model/wiring but my ecu ig fuse was popping due to the wiring harness coming from the alternator had become loose and wire protector broken in that spot and was resting on the frame…wore through the wire barely and was making intermittent contact and popping fuse. 04 tundra double cab 4wd sr5

thanks for the update this is exactly what happened to my sequoia. I would have never thought to look there with it not showing any signs of alternator issues.
    Thanks again for the advice
